Got my letter the other day. I will be taking Military Deferment as I get to go the the sandbox later this year and won't be available till late next year. Nice timing, perhaps the whole mess will be sorted out by then with a JCBA and SLI completed.

Are you referring to UAL newhires who were hired in 2008? All the new abbreviations makes things difficult to track.

Look at it this way - there are 1437 furloughed at UAL. If every single pilot took the CAL offer there are 1437 UAL furloughed.

No pool.......if one says "No" or "bypasses" the CAL offer nothing happens. If they decide they want to take the CAL offer after the bypass they just have to let CAL know and they will be in an upcoming class.

The only way the 1437 number reduces is when UAL recalls them.

Hope that helps.

You must have sent your UAL resignation letter to the wrong person!

Seems pretty risky to go back to first year pay, no JCBA, CAL's "work rules" and a strike on the horizon. So I will probably bypass.

Anyone know what the ramifications would be of accepting the offer, and then backing out a few weeks before if things are still ugly? Would you be unable to be put back in the hopper for a later CAL class?
