They still will hire off the street, even after poolies from UAL and CAL, there are still classes all spring to fill. Even with a JCBA they will need to hire off the street.

Just a few years of slow to zero movement for the actual off the street hires, or furlough, but I think that is well known and more than acceptable for any of them.

New to the forum, but retiring from the military and going to IAH for training on Nov 13th. If anyone has some gouge to study prior and/or an outline for a training schedule it would surely be appreciated.

Tony,

Don't know for certain, but I would assume so. Target is 48 per month with 4 classes of 12. Nov and Dec will be 3 classes of 16 due to the holidays. That's how I recall it anyway.

It's appalling that Continental is going to hire off the street while United has 1436 on furlough! They're both ALPA carriers operating under a single certificate! It's 100% the wrong thing to do!!! It's not the fault of the 1437 furloughed United Pilots that this merger and integration has taken so damn long. ALPA National should step in and stop this from happening. This has to be the first time since this Union started that something like this has happened. We deserve an explanation of what is being done by the United MEC to get the 1437 United pilots back on the property prior to any hiring of new hires off the street. The company created this mess and it's their problem and it has to be a violation of ALPA policy. Plus, for United to give the MEC permission to announce a recall and then basically retract the statement because the summer block hour plan is still in flux and isn't sure exactly how many pilots it will need next summer is complete BS. The company is not comfortable enough even to announce a general number and time frame for recalls, yet CAL is able to forecast a large system bid and announcement of new pilot hiring of 48 month indefinitely! ***!!!! The 1437 furloughed United Pilots should be outraged!

Just curious, what makes a group good? Not trying to stir the pot, just curious.

Actually a good question. They all were nice, good attitudes and happy to be there. I enjoyed talking with them and thus labeled them as good. Plus, I like to see someone getting moving back in the right direction after all the UAL furloughees have gone through.

Are L-UAL furlough's that declined the first offer by CAL but are now going to class coming in at the bottom of the CAL seniority list or are they being placed in relation to their L-UAL seniority with other furloughs?

They are placed at the bottom of the L-CAL list according to their relative seniority within the L-UAL list. In other words, the guys who were senior to me in my new hire UAL class are still senior to me, no matter when they join L-CAL.
