Couple of quick questions for CAL newhires

K. Pilots in the same Equipment and Status may trade Bases if both pilots hold the same Equipment and Status on the most recent System Bid or Adjustment Bid award. The proposed trade must be posted by an electronic or similar means provided by the Company for thirty (30) Calendar Days. The trade will be approved after thirty (30) Calendar Days if there are no valid objections. An objection is considered valid when submitted by a pilot whose seniority is between the seniority of the two pilots who are trading Bases and who is in one of the two BES's being traded.
I'm not sure what the success rate is but I tried it once when I (and several others) had been displaced from the base where our homes were. There was one pilot there who wanted to trade with one of us. Each of us would put a base trade request in with him and, one by one, another pilot who was still at the base would "object" to the trade. Not only that but he strategically waited the full 30 days to object so the process would be slowed down. All the while we're away from family, six days at a time sitting reserve in a crash pad or own-expense hotel. Our only hope was that he would slip up and forget to object to one of the attempts. He didn't. He had the contractual right to do this and it would have pushed him down a single position but it still was a raw thing to experience.

True. Maybe not until they've been staffed in a system bid, although it could be worth a try. A new hire filling a system bid vacancy might be considered holding a position on a system bid.

I have flown with a few B756 FO's outta IAH on the SA trips. They have said they can hold LAX FO on reserve, or just at the G-Line. They are waiting to move up to a solid line holder before bidding. Painting with a broad stroke, there's more than just a couple sitting on the sidelines waiting to bid in, and it's a 'small base'.
On the flip side, I have also heard the rumor that once the TPA expires, UHC 'may' plan on expanding the CAL's LAX Ops.....again, just a rumor FWIW. Stating the obvious, but that would allow more of those waiting/wanting to bid into LA the opportunity to do so.
Just my 2/100th's of a Washington.
Best of Luck.

At that point the CO pilots will have no advantage over their "brothers" at United. Be careful what you wish for.
Which is it?

I didn't respond to your original post about LAX but from what I've read, it sounds like there'll be an increase in Guppies out of LAX. As far as I'm concerned, they can fill terminal 8 with Guppies; it got taken over by RJs sometime after 9/11. I used to fly Airbii off of those gates; I'd love to see that flying upguaged back to mainline and I don't care if it's flown by S-CAL or S-UAL; we'll all eventually be one.
