2012 Fleet Plan

Only UAL calls 737's guppies. I'm not sure why. The -500 looks like one, but the other 200 planes don't. I had a little A319 call my -900ER a guppy in SFO. If a -900 is a guppy, so is the 757. Same airframe. Same seats.
747's: you can try to keep them, but as part of the original discussion, I don't think they will survive the merger long-term. CAL parked theirs, along with anything that is old or has more than two engines. Its a money thing. I don't like the CAL way of marketing airframes and routes, but I have no say in the matter. CAL always has the smallest airframe in any given market, but they do make money, so what more can I say?

Pardon me for dropping in again, but this particular forum doesn't translate well in the neutral observer/adult world.
As an aviation buff and some prior business, I'm lightly familiar with some of the issues being discussed. However, some on this thread are doing a great impersonation of a few first graders in a too-small sandbox. A few more adults and a few less children might do wonders.
Seriously, this is a public website. You guys are running a high risk of doing yourselves a disservice.
I fly the new UAL a lot (and the former CAL and former UAL). I'm having a difficult time establishing an adult connection between who and what I see entering the flight deck and what I'm observing on this forum.

Much has changed in the industry of the last 30+ years...expanded markets, new equipment technology and comm tools to name just a few.
Unfortunately, with the expanding industry came a corresponding reduction in qualifications including personal maturity. As pilots, sometimes I think we're very lucky that the improved technology has a tendency to offset some of the maturity, discipline issues.
I can assure you that the vast majority of my peers are solid, mature, disciplined professionals. What you see here is not commonplace.
Although my peers can speak for themselves, I certainly appreciate your business at the new UAL. Thanks for buying and I hope you keep coming back.

The rough and tumble banter that you read here may put you and other non-pilot observers off, but it is not indicative of behavior in the cockpit. Yes, many of us are disgusted with the state of OUR profession and the atmosphere at UCH, but we compartmentalize those thoughts and get down to business when we fly. We are professional pilots, not altar boys, and we don't wear three-piece suits. We don't have much tolerance for corporate/legal doubletalk and BS, or for weaklings within our ranks. So if you don't like the way we sometimes interact with each other on this forum, feel free to stay off it.

Mr/Ms Attny, you should visit the Southwest vs Airtran, Delta vs Southwest or UsAir vs UsAir threads. I think you'll see that we at "The New United" are actually quite civilized. Now would someone please pass the Grey Poupon?

The Guppy is an awesome plane though. I spent 11 years on it. It is like my Harley Softtail. Fun on short rides but sucks if you are strapped to it for 5 hours straight. My rear end would get used to it nicely at SWA rates I have to admit.
