Not sure you can either, which is the crux of the problem. No matter how certain you may feel about your "right-sizing" assertion, I've never seen anything that would convince me or, more importantly, cause an arbitrator to give it any serious consideration.
Not sure what "benefit" you think we're getting but I certainly haven't seen it. Just more useless CAL bashing.
From the sound of it I think your expectations are somewhat unrealistic as well. Thats why we have merger committees.

Making the World's Largest Airline Fly - Businessweek
"For months the issue dominated the meetings of the beverage committee, a 14-member panel drawn from procurement, flight operations, finance, food services, and marketing."

From 2008. Chicago Tribune.
United Airlines is expected to ground dozens of its least-fuel-efficient aircraft, including Boeing 747 jumbo jets, as part of a sweeping round of cuts intended to help the carrier conserve cash and survive as a stand-alone company in daunting times.
The Chicago-based airline intensified planning for the initiative as it cooled on a potential merger with US Airways in mid-May, say people familiar with its plans.
United already had planned to ground all of its 30 Boeing 737-500s, which seat just 108 passengers but burn as much fuel as the larger, narrow-body jets that it uses for flights within North America.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAA
You guys kill me.
"Facilitate the merger".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You parked the majority of your domestic fleet (which also gave you a great ratio of active pilots to widebody too -which argument do you want to make to the arbitrator btw?) to facilitate "the" merger.
I know you all will keep telling each other that on the various forums until it becomes true. But it just doesnt work that way. Maybe the merger with LCC or something. But...... you know, nevermind. Run with that argument. Im sure the best thing you can do for your 1400 plus on furlough is to have pipe dreams.
I feel very sorry for your furloughs and the furloughs we had. I feel happy that many of your furloughs are back to making at least their parting wages while flying in the same seat and domicile as our recently returned furloughs that I had to fill out probationary report forms for three years after their return.
Im sorry for the losses on your side. But this is getting sick and old. It is on every little UAL forum about how mistreated you are in reference to LCAL. You lost nothing in profit sharing because we got it. So get over it. We got an extension, because the extension from the TPA expired. Profit sharing wasnt new.
We were hiring into the right seat widebody and have those guys on property for years that were never furloughed. We have captains from 98 that have been so now for over 4 years and did not lose their seats. Nearly all of us in our 20s and 30s were expected to retire into widebody positions. So enough with this almighty brain surgeon stuff. You were furloughed or lost your seat because at the time, your company sucked pure and simple. Just liked Cal sucked a decade earlier. It happens. You missed the cycle. We didnt. You had one good quarter before the merger but that was after a decade of front page USA today print showing UAL loses another billion this quarter.
Im sorry for your furloughs. It sucks. It sucked for ours too. You have scabs. We have scabs. You have some good airplanes and some shatty ones. Some good sims and some shatty ones. So do we. Now get a grip on reality and hope that it plays out well for you. But quit spreading pure crap that gives people false hope. The career expectation of someone on the street is zero. Your company's past mismanagement is not our problem. I just enjoy the memories of nearly every UAL guy that was on my jumpseat asking "when are we going to merge, we need it". Our response was always "I hope never".

Question genius, how many routes did CAL/UAL overlap on??? You dont think that was by design?

My furloughees, your furloughees....aren't we 'Our Furloughees', fraternal brother?
From Bloomberg article:
<<Considering how much attention the labor pacts have gotten, it’s a surprise to find out that there’s near-universal agreement—among management, labor, and industry analysts—that the airline doesn’t really need the pacts to capture most of the gains of the merger. Other than mixing and matching flight crews, there’s little that the lack of joint accords prevents them from doing.>>
Good news for you people and 'yours' is that what coffee is contracted and what tie/sweater combos our gate agents wear has our "management co-workers" tied in knots and burning the midnight oil, so we should stay in divide and conquer organizational mode out on the line for the forseeable future.
Oh, and they are mixing and matching flight crews by hiring furloughed guys into indentured servitude on the L-CAL side frozen at year X pay until such time as one has rowed the galley for X years or returns to the L-UAL side and, you guessed it, stays at year X pay for another year. Now that's career progression prison style. "I'll give ya five packs of smokes for your furloughee"....."you're my furloughee now, b$tch".....and so on.
Lastly, can't wait to do a five day with you, mate. You seem like a real team building people person.
Did you just say, "You people?",
