......... now we have the slightest mouse fart in the economy and history tells us UAL will furlough like crazy it's a cultural thing here. Guess where Mr. new hire winds up? On the street for say a short decade? Roll the dice and take your chances here at UCH my friend. But don't say you weren't warned.
It's not so much a cultural thing as it is an over staffing thing. LUAL has, for their fleet size, way too many pilots. LCAL, for their fleet size, does not have enough pilots. I think with this JCBA there will hopefully be a middle ground found so that if their is a next "event" several thousand pilots won't be hitting the street.

Wow. That will come as a great surprise to all the UAL pilots that have been called for junior/senior manning this summer.
Or perhaps the optimum pilot-to-aircraft ratio at the two subsidiaries are different due to different fleet mixes and operating theaters? Hint: L-UAL has ~110 twin aisle aircraft that rarely, with the exception of west coast to Hawaii, operate with only 2 pilots.

What the hell is senior manning? Your right though. Should be past tense. HAD.

The two subsidiaries fly approx the same number of block hours, I'll let you determine the amount of pilots staffed at each.

I doubt it. If it were true, UAL would furlough them- no question!
