Perhaps, but based upon everything that has transpired to this point I suspect 42 is the approximate number of actual slots available (i.e. declined by L-UAL furloughees by the deadline) this year and is not necessarily related to the source of the pilots. Besides, UCH has no real idea of how many poolies are even still interested four years later---I'm sure many remain interested but others have presumably moved on to other employment.

FWIW this has changed also:

United Airlines - Pilot positions

I hope they give consideration to people who have been religiously updating airline apps for the past 5 years for no apparent reason!

Minimums are posted in Airlineapps.com

But not on the company website yet... odd.

WOW!!

No turbine PIC requirement... That will take them from having 7000 apps to 20,000 to wade through.

I am sure they have a way to pick out people from the stack(s).

Bet internal rec's will aid in the picking.

Does anyone know if internal recs through airline apps are done the same way as Delta's? For example, does it need to come from a United (if they even have one) email address for it to count as internal or will any email for a pilot work? Do they follow the same two paragraph format?

Quick bump for this question to see if anyone has an answer. I'm thinking on the recommendation request it shows date of hire for a United employee, I wonder if that will flag it as an internal, otherwise what will?

Unlike the Delta addendum, United's doesn't say to send it to a company email address from what I read. Ymmv.
