Yeah keep hanging your hat on DOH or longevity. Stovepiping has nothing to do with either. It's only a method of seeing what seats your seniority actually bring to the table. It gets rid of anomolies like maybe very junior Captains at one airline due to a very crummy base that no one wants to bid.

Isn't this the first merger utilizing the new ALPA merger policy?

What happened at DL/NW may not necessarily happen here.

Let me help you. This is the first merger utilizing the new ALPA merger policy. Past performance may not predict future results y'all.
First I agree with you SOTeric please send Mr. DELTOID away so we can have big boy discussions.

Actually the Pinnacle-Colgan-Mesaba merger was the first one under the new Alpa merger policy.

Little nugget out of that was the Mesaba furloughed pilots WERE NOT STAPLED and actually slotted above active pilots.(shock....gasp....omg!)

The fact that CAL mentioned the word "Stapled" in the opening SLI arguments speaks volumes.

No, it turns out it's the second.

The first was Pinnacle/Mesaba/Colgan where the arbitrator sorted the pilots by status and category (using the stovepipe method) into several groups (CRJ900 CA, CRJ200 CA, Turboprop CA, CRJ900 FO, ect.) and then sorted each group by DOH to protect....wait for it...longevity. He specifically said it wouldn't be fair to put pilots hired later senior to those hired earlier when using the current ALPA merger policy.

And yes, the arbitrator (Bloch) knows something about using different polices because as head arbitrator for DAL/NWA he signed off on a totally different methodology and dismissed the NWA proposal to use DOH because it did not reflect the policy at the time.

The award is an interesting read to say the least, and IMHO, is one of several driving forces behind the strategies being used by CAL and UAL.

And, to all the UAL furloughees out there, be you at CAL now or just waiting for the right time to come back .. one MEC wants to staple you to the bottom like a used dish rag, the other MEC is fighting for longevity credit for you. Never forget where the loyalties fall. Next ID, if you're flying at CAL, ask your "captain" how he stands on this. Guessing he'll lie to you and say he supports your longevity.

Wow! You are upset about CAL's starting position? Look at your own house, remember, it's the people who supposedly represent your best interest that allowed a contract with LOA 25!!! And the majority of your 'housemates' voted YES! How fast we forget... After all, didn't the CAL MEC do the right thing about hiring and fighting for longevity pay for the furloughs? What has your MEC and brethren done for you lately???

You reckon it was the CAL MEC or the UAL MEC who insisted on the inclusion of LOA 25? (Rhetorical question if you didn't already know.)

Something to the tone of "If you don't agree to this we are going to hold up contract negotiations indefinitely while we continue to rape and pillage your flying."
