Wow, congrats. Welcome aboard. When I was hired at L-UAL 24 years, the guys and gals took care of all us new hires on trips. That tradition still leaves on and I have never let a new hire ever pay for beers and dinners while on probation. Soon enough we will all be one combine pilot group and hope to keep up with the good traditions. Again welcome aboard.

Shake,
To you and all the new hires, welcome to what's left of United. I'm sorry that the first weeks "new hire" welcoming traditions have been killed. I'm also sorry we allowed the working conditions and work rules to become so diluted. First during our shotgun wedding sham bankruptcy and now with our new largely unimproved and degraded JBCA.
Unfortunately, it's no longer the (reasonably) pilot friendly place it used to be and the new management team seems hellbent on making it worse. Perhaps with your help the blue team AND the black team can reverse that trend. Two things are certain, the new company has significant potential and there will be many retirements in the next 15 years. Both ought to work in our favor but only if we don't allow additional erosion of work rules and if we don't allow ourselves to be pushed around by short term robber barons.
Please don't ever forget that YOU possess an ATP and a very exclusive skill set. Ours is a very small and exclusive community and should demand respect. At a minimum, our toys cost tens of millions of dollars and shoot through all the crap mother nature offers around the world 24/7. Even the small ones have 125+ peeps strapped in the back. That ought to count for something.
I'm also sorry you'll never get to fly the 27. But, that's life and another thread.
Please know and enforce your contract. Beers are on me.
PS. If James ever hears you say "this is such a great job I'd do it for free" he will smack you instantly.

I don't know James... but James speaks the truth.
Oh, and beers are on me as well.
