Got back recently from Denver. Don’t know if I am going get the job, but did the best I could and am writing this while it is fresh. The info on this thread and from a few friends was a huge help. Have a few suggestions of my own to add, so will pay it forward and maybe it will help somebody else.
Got email March 4th, took about 7-8 weeks to get follow up call. Got Hogan a day later and did it right away, and was called again a week later. Invited to Denver and went out about a week and a half later. Will add results later before I post this. Was told when interview was complete decision board meets on Wednesdays and some Fridays and considers your total score from Hogan, Interview, and Sim. So don’t over think the Hogan. They have stopped the process just based on the Hogan so my advice is answer simply and honestly. If they don’t want you at least make it because you were honest and not gaming the test. FWIW.
TT 6000+, TPIC 4000+, IP 800+, Last 12 months 500+, Retired Military.
Profile is as they send to you, with exception of some get a climb to 10,000 and accelerate to 280. Used CREW PILOT TRAINING at SWA facility in Dallas for prep. HOME . $595. Your call…
SWA sim is an old round dial steam 737-300 and harder to fly than the Evaluation Sim in Denver which is an EFIS 737-300, the attitude gyro is easy to see and MFD below it has a moving map you can use. Unlike other airline, sim evals the FO will set your heading and speed bugs and your altitude alerter. You can even use moving map on lower MFD. Not a bad idea to go on Amazon and buy Microsoft Flight Sim 2004 and play with 737-300. For $15 this is a great way to practice and hone attitudes, callouts, and power settings. The flying you do in these evals is pitch, power, and airspeed focused, very unlike the autopilot, glass, and Flight Director focused flying I am used to doing.
In the invite they give you 3 hotels near the Training Center. Holiday Inn is closest and has a United, Military, Government rate and other discounts. Buffet is $12 and bar has numerous beers on tap. Skipped the beers this trip myself but if I stayed night of interview would have imbibed. Renaissance, Best Western, and Doubletree are also on Quebec. Restaurants, mall, and Walmart all very close. Holiday Inn Stapleton East had shuttles to and from and United also runs a Shuttle to the airport from the training center. You walk out hotel and up Quebec a bit then go east on E 35th Ave. You will see a gate across from a Liquor store, buzz and they will let you in. The gate, not the liquor store. You can just go through driveway but that may be a bad idea.
Receptionist greets you and checks your paperwork. You interview with a Captain and an HR rep, after they review your logbook so suggest either clean it up or break it down on a spreadsheet. I did the spreadsheet summary and they liked it. Questions are TMAAT type focusing on customer service, taking input from subordinates, correcting yourself when wrong, and overcoming obstacles. Seemed to me to be more about what type of person you were than your flying career. They want real examples from either flying or non-flying experiences. It is low stress. It starts with quick 3-5 min who are you and resume review. About an hour total.
Sim was after interview but it could be in different order for somebody else. Timed 15 minute brief from evaluator on what to do, what is order of events, and what he will do if you ask him. Goes over a bit of power settings, then you pick one of 5 numbers associated with a United hub and your profile is based there. No surprises and they do the profile as advertised, then on the missed approach you do an SBI event. Very simple and straight forward. Keep in mind they are evaluating you for Captain skills not on getting the “right” answer. There isn’t one. Emerald Coast is the best in the business teaching this and glad I used Albie for prep.
So now just wait.

Got the job.

Dragon,

Great post. Very accurate. The Hogan has caught some and it ends right there. Be honest and comfortable with your answers. There is no buddy help if you fail.

The Doubletree hotel is actually a little closer. United gets 20% off meal ans you should get free breakfast there. Oh and $3.00 beer(s) at the DT bar if you are United. Don't have to show ID.

The board does meet and if you fail one part of the interview process you probably won't get a call. If you pass all it is very likely you get the job.

Hogan is the online personality assessment that HR wanted so that they could use it to prescreen candidates. If your answers don't score a certain number, you won't get the invite for the interview. Personally I wish it was just not used as a prescreen tool. Fail it, along with any other portion of the interview process and you have to wait 12 months to reapply.

Sounds like a computerized version of the shrink interview you had to get through back in the day for the Delta interview. Really creepy dude. They (Delta) eventually dumped him when they realized it was a completely subjective process that accomplished very little. Really disturbing that UAL is wasting money and the applicants time on "personality assessments".

I agree. Waste of time and money but what do I know. I probably would have failed it.
