AFAIK, for now its totally their discretion since you have no way to see what your position is on the FIFO list. For example, there are a ton of guys on tomorrow. I just had two off and I got nailed for a SC. Now, its possible, but with a ton of guys on res and only two off you generally can count on being long call for the first day back.
The new version of Crew Companion can't get here fast enough.

OK. One issue I find with that is that it requires a level of effort and sleuthing that we never had to possess before. Before you could simply dial UAL SKED and get your number. You could do it walking up the jetbridge for the go home DH. Nice when you have precious little time to make a decision about the next day. For commuters, it was a great tool.

You know what, at this point I am convinced its only going to get worse, at least for the next month with 117 and the CCS changeover. It hard to believe that anything could make Unimatic seem desirable.
This week has been an eye opener for sure. No hotels? Nothing listed on trip pairing? Self service transp to hotels? We fly, they manage. We'll be lucky if we're not in the news soon.
DAL is on the forward horizon and pulling away. AAL will soon be in the rearview with a bullet.

Call the hotel desk and let them do their job. Not your resp to find a room. We walk when the room they give is unsat. Their using us as the backstop for them dropping the ball. The schedule is printed months in advance. They know when and where they are going to need rooms.
Does anyone from the crew desk or the hotel squad preflight the plane, fly our redeyes or take our PC's for us?

Looking at the iah 756 for tomorrow and they converted 2 one day guys, 2 two day guys and only 1 four+ day guy.. So i hope they don t have more than 1 3,4,5 day trip coming open tomorrow or they re gonna be rolling days off!!!
Why not convert the 4 day guys and leave the poor guy on his last day on long call??? How useful can a guy on his last day be on short call when you have multiple 4+ days guys also on reserve

I have seen a lot of buffoonery at UAL over the years. I have never seen things go pear shaped on such an epic scale, and the 117 rollout on the 31st isn't even here yet.
We will be in the news.

Union email this morning covers lots of these questions. Will see if the answers are correct starting on reserve on the First. Takeaways aggressive pickup at 1100 base time, check schedule at 1800-2359, don't answer call from Chicago on day off....

What happens if they give you a short call reserve assignment before 1500 base time on the last day off? If I am reading the contract right you have to check at 1500 and if given a short call they can use you as early as 0200 for a 0600 departure (10ish hours rest)? If given a short call after 1500 then you don't answer your phone and you can't be used until later that day. I hope I'm reading it wrong and I can get away from them giving me that short call day one back. Please someone clarify...I read the email from ALPA.

A one minute duty period will be recorded at midnight of the first day on reserve (interim process pending programming changes that move this time to 1800). Following this one minute of duty, a minimum of 10 hours of rest free from duty is required.
Therefore, a reserve coming off days off is not legal to report for a trip or begin a SC/FSB until 1000 on his first day of reserve unless the crew desk achieves two-way contact (see Important Note below) or the pilot aggressively picks up an assignment. For reserves that are not coming off days off, be sure to consider this limitation and realize pilots on their first day of reserve cannot cover reports prior to 1000 unless they aggressively pick it up. Use caution when evaluating the FIFO list and make sure you consider this restriction on early reports for pilots coming off days off.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the crew desk calls you on your last day off and achieves positive contact (two-way telephone conversation) they can give you an early SC or trip that departs as early as 0600. If such positive contact is achieved, there is no requirement to enter the 1 minute of duty at midnight but contact must be made at least 10 hours prior to the report or SC/FSB start time.
