Not to be rude, but how many hiring cycles have you witnessed and been a part of?

Because to be under the impression that networking may not seem as important it is is naive at best.

If you were to take a poll of EVERY new hire class at UAL, the ones that networked in some fashion are in the majority. Doesn't matter if it was job fairs (multiple in many cases), the M&G's, interns, or whatever other method.

You'd also find that the ones that get "cold called" (for lack of a better term) are in the minority of a class.

Not rude and you are absolutely correct: I am naive when it comes to airline hiring. My point is that some people make it out to be that the only people being hired nowadays are those who know somebody and have done job fairs and M&Gs. I have at least 15 friends hired in the past year at UAL and other majors who didn't know anyone either. I am left to assume that they were hired on qualifications.

Nope, there were selected from the stack of apps based on their qualifications.

They were HIRED because they're good people, did a good job in the interview, probably did their homework/prep, and weren't an *********.

Yes, you are correct. However, the point still stands: they were selected from the stack based on qualifications not because they knew somebody.

Also keep in mind, that in this newer era of targeted selection/performance based interview system, NOBODY is hired on their qualifications.

The point was, people don't get through an interview based on their qualifications. You can rephrase your point however you wish, my point STILL STANDS.

For those with military time, did you add the mil conversion on your Airline Apps flight time? It doesn't seem like it does the conversion automatically when you compare with the different airlines.

Also, those who did a ORD CP meet and greet, was your LOR added to Airline Apps or not?

UAL doesn't convert as far as I know.

Airline Apps has a pretty good instruction page. No mil conversion input...they have a "formula" if you are mil. You will never see it, just gotta trust it.

Good luck.
