"The point was, people don't get through an interview based on their qualifications."

I think some people think they got hired because of their qualifications and forget it was their qualifications and all the footwork which got them an interview. We all got hired because of the interview, our qualifications just opened that door.

I have a question for all United new hires. I applied several months ago. I haven't heard a word. I currently fly 135 as a PIC. Anyone know what type of experience United is looking for or what helps putting your app on top of the application pile?? Thank you in advance for everyone's input.

My guess at what the order they look at is......
1. Well connected
2. Military
3. Current 121
4. Prior 121
5. 135
6. 91

Again, just my uneducated guess.

Several months ago? Keep waiting... There are ten thousand applicants. Lots with military time. Get some internal recommendations on file and go to some job fairs... Be patient. Several months is nothing

For those requesting info on whose getting called, here ya go. I was originally called in March of 2013. Failed the personality test. Total bummer. I was fortunate enough to be called in early May, in the first group after my manatory 12 month waiting period was up. Interviewed June 2nd, and was successful this time. I haven't gone to any job fairs and don't have any strong insider letters, other than about 5 regular line pilots (at UAL/CAL) that wrote for me. I'm a 121 check airman with about 5000 hours of PIC, but as far as I can tell, I was "cold called"... So for those that don't have special hookups (like me), fingers crossed and good luck!

PS - for the 135 guy who applied a couple months ago, I think I applied around the 2006-2007 time frame...

Thanks everyone for the insight. Hopefully they'll call me sooner before later. Does anyone know if a UAL new hire be based at IAD?
