Not sure what is so hard for some to understand.
There is now not a need for as much 737 flying in IAH due to other aircraft flying those routes. Not as much 737 flying based in IAH means less 737 pilots needed in IAH. If a 737 route gets better profit margins being flown by an Airbus, regardless if the 737 carries more pax, the Airbus will fly that route. Marketing/UAL is making those decisions, not ALPA.
And with multiple more hubs to filter passengers thru due to the merger, IAH has lost some need to be the end all, be all connecting hub it once was.
It really is that simple. No conspiracy.
Displacement suck, it just happens to be IAH 737's turn to experience it next. Welcome to the club.

As many of you recall, leading up the final SLI, UA staffing was allowed to get completely out of whack. Some bases and seats were bloated like the TSA, while others were grossly understaffed with near zero reserves. The results were rampant cancellations and overtime pay being handed out like treats at halloween. While at other bases, life on reserve was sublime. An astonishing amount of money was lost and opportunities were squandered. Finally, the de-whacking has begun.
Predictably, some are now fulminating.
How rich!
My prediction? We are lining up for another lousy contract. And of course, after ratification ALPA will take all the blame, especially by those who remained detached, uninformed (willfully ignorant) and unaware of the ramifications of their actions. We'll get to listen to them too.
But, the dogwoods and the azaleas buds are fat. Its almost time for Augusta

And that's the problem Andy...we have an Union that has responsibility to care and it's obvious that it doesn't
Also the past difficulties of many pilots were not caused at a time when there was major hiring, fuel was at an incredibly low price, no major war and no economic downturn....very different than what we are seeing today...
If we were experiencing the problems of the past I could agree with you..but that is not the case today in today's environment...

As far as economic downturn, wake UP! The Houston area and all of Texas are in a recession. It's a regional economic downturn that's negatively impacting the profitability of the IAH hub. IAH will eventually grow again, but for now it needs to shrink. I get the feeling you don't understand basic economics very well.
As far as your attitude goes, if you're going to spend the next 30+ years of your life being miserable and blaming everything on LUAL, it would be wise for you to seek employment elsewhere. There's plenty of hiring going on and you'd have no problem getting on somewhere else. It would be worth it for your personal happiness.

Please let's not waste our energy debating SEA.
As far as IAH and this apparent overstaffing, look at the facts:
1. We are a growing airline
2. We are actively looking for airplanes in the used market
3. IAH is our biggest HUB
4. IAH is a historical L-Cal base with very junior CA's due to an ISL award that was disproportionately biased against the CAL pilots.
5. Very little time is needed to fix any surplus as the airline retires pilots and organic movement within the airline shifts the staffing to the correct levels.
6. LUAL pilots are disproportional awarded all future training...any seat, base and fleet is almost all going to LUAL pilots thus any displacement will harm LCAL pilot because of our lack of bidding power. Where displacement to LUAL bases still leave LUAL pilots with a wide array of choices and options.
7. A displacement bid in IAH would be a tremendous attack on the spirit of the merger and would cause LCAL pilots to lose trust with this management and their intentions going forward.
8. We have an Union that cares nothing about the plight of the IAH pilots thus a clear case of misrepresentation and bias against the LCAL pilots from a Union that is turning its backs on a base and pilot group it care little about.

Please Andy...don't say bull**** without backing it up...give us the data that points to a Texas or Houston Recession and also the loss of cities and routes lost to the IAH hub....
