Yes, I know exactly what he means. We have a better chance of defeating ISIL with a rusty butter knife then getting management to change their ways via a bunch of long winded letters from pilots equating morale with trip trading. Go ahead, write those letters. I'm sure the boys on Mahogany Row could use a good laugh.

Most of us know that dollars and regulation are the drivers of change in the world we work.

Isn't there a negotiated trade freeze during line construction?

Nfl: yes and when u get a line(soon i hope), i dont think you should be restricted to the current trading system of only a day for a day with no transparency.

Im assuming your talking about trading trips/days multiple days in advance? But, all the "good stuff" drops in the day before a trip via sick calls. Currently the system sucks for anything inside of 24 hrs.
Glad the system is working for you and i hope you enjoy the staffing levels in your base while you can. I forsee an airline woefully understaffed in all BES's once they get everything "in balance".

I also understand the frustrations. Blame the company, not ALPA.

ALPA got the crew desk restricted from doing the special last minute deals for their favored few. You really do not want to go there again. Believe it or not, some try to game the system to get their special deals around the seniority system...I know...unbelievable right?

Dave: i hear ya. Im all for cutting out the shenanigans. But im usually trying to reduce my sched....impossible now. I cant drop, i cant slide a trip a single day. The trade i spoke of at the beginning of this thread wont work simply because of the technical nature of when each trip starts. I would be curious to know how it works at DAL or AMR... Our current system is worse than the trade capabilities at my former regional job. All because of people gaming the system!?!? Gotta be a way to stop them without restricting the rest of us.

Called scheds and union rep, and basically no way to execute this trade. What a bunch of crap. Basically, in my bes you have no way of trading unless it is exact day for a day in the seniority system. Thanks again Alpa. The scheduler tried to help and "wished she could as we used to be able to make this trade, but we are now forbidden from doing it".
Gee sorry if i feel a little entitled as a major airline pilot to think that i may move a day around every once in a while.
The trip trading on PBS always sucked. It was so much better on unimatic. Back in the old days of black screens and green letters. OMG I sound like an old fart.

I believe the root of the problem is that this trade runs in "no mans land" between the two systems. The first trip would be in the real time system and the other in the seniority system. I have has this same issue. Really dumb that it can't execute between the two
