The AF has 13,000 pilots and only a small fraction of those are even eligible for separation and/or retirement. I do think the amount of mil pilots taking the bonus is going to plummet drastically over the next 5 yrs though.
I think you're right about the bonus take rate continuing to drop. From last year to this year, the take rate dropped over 10%. In the fighter community it was less than 50% of eligible pilots signing up. My guess from conversations around work is that those percentages will keep dropping. It's been the same $25k/year for at least 10 years now. With the climate not getting better and the bonus getting relatively smaller every year, more Mil guys will be putting in apps every year. Or they won't, just my gut feeling.

"The United MEC this week is conducting a series of ALPA Military Webinars for prospective pilots interested in a career with United Airlines. The webinars are designed to give up-to-date hiring information to pilots who are currently serving in the military.

Subject Matter Experts from the UAL-MEC Military Affairs Committee (Chairman Captain Dennis Smith and Vice Chairman First Officer Eric White) are providing prospective candidates with personal perspectives on how to transition from Military duty to life as a civilian pilot at United. Captain Smith and First Officer White have USAF background/service and assist United pilots with military service commitments and benefits.

Members from United’s Pilot Recruitment team, Mr. Bill Kennedy, Senior Manager - Pilot Hiring Programs and Ms. Susan Witt, also are participating in providing pilots with a candid approach into how to succeed in the interview process with United.

Feedback from the webinars have been positive and the UAL-MEC thanks United’s Pilot Recruitment team for the partnership in finding the very best pilots for our collective future.

The Military Webinars, which continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, focus on helping current and former military pilots who are seeking to make the transition from our Armed Services to a United flight deck."
