If "among other things" includes being an effective collective bargaining agent for pilots who would otherwise enjoy a fraction of our current compensation and quality of life then you would be right. Risk of FAR enforcement and aeromedical issues are way down the list of why pilots are unionized.

Instead some of you here want to throw the dice on an idea that we can get above the 18% we are getting plus make up what we will lose in lost earnings from now until we sign your Unicorn contract....Unicorns don't exist...this TA exist...it is real...it is here..now...wake up!!!
No, I did not say that. My opinion is that the money would be nice, but I think there is a pretty good chance my QOL would be better if we address the full contract. I would rather have the contract improved than the pay raise. 13% is not enough to overcome that drawback for me.

CAL Captain John Prater become head of ALPA several years ago and he was going to "Take it back" and make pilots respectable again. Well he didn't. Ask him, ALPA is obsolete, broken, and can't be fixed. The ALPA tool box is worn out and holds nothing. The ALPA playbook is from doing business in the 1970's it isn't going to change. If you want an industry leading contract then you need to start thinking out side the box and start a new Union just for us UAL pilots. NOW IS THE TIME.

Let's see who the the real leaders of our pilot group with a new vision rise to the occasion. Let's take the ALPA pin off our ties and stick it on our ass so everytime we sit in a Pilot seat it hurts and reminds us of where the real problem is.

What do you say Dave F.?
I picketed with Prater in Detroit. He isn't really germane to this debate other than we agree ALPA is not a real labor union. Any pretense to that is disingenuous at best.

I agree, now is the time. We just disagree with the course of action. I think we can have a much better QOL with opening the contract NOW, by turning down the TA. As I said in another reply, the pay raise would be nice, but for me, it's about work rules and QOL. This raise isn't enough for me to live with this contract another 2 years.

Merry Christmas to all!

As far as the TA goes, I keep hearing that many feel a NO vote will get the Company back to the table, force them to open regular negotiations early or even expedite such negotiations.

Been here a very long time and personally I believe if we vote NO they, the Company, will just sit on it and let's us live with what we currently have. No expedited or return to the table.

But as Sgt. Schultz said, "I know nothing!"

Sleep well.

Delta management said the same and then **** canned an order for 737 and E 190s...

Who was it that ordered a bunch of E190's and 737's and is starting to get ready to negotiate?

I agree… anyone that thinks that voting no is going to get us a FULL contract sooner is spending too much time at the weed shop in DEN. Labor Relations is going to go back to Munoz and say, "we gave it a try boss"… and then we will be signing a contract in 2019 with very similar terms. They aren't going to give us a counter offer TA or come to the table earlier. Hope I'm wrong but think this is how it will play out.

Hmm. This is the third time management has tried to fix their FAR 117 FDP extension problem, second time in eight months for FRMs and they agreed to open the IAM Section 6 contract negotiation a year early. Who is "spending too much time at the weed shop in DEN"?

I stayed across the street for 6 weeks... Could be second hand I guess. IMO This FRMS language will help QoL for global WB reserve pilots.

Great, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the leverage it provides for the pilots. It is amazing how many pilots seem to have no conception of leverage or how we should use it.

747-400s would have helped global WB pilots, but Rick Dubinsky forced the company to park them until we got all kinds of contractual improvements.
