Children! Both of you stop it. This is embarrassing.
Please remember, in large part, ALPA is a volunteer organization. Most pilots who do a job there are not compensated. Those who are given trip drops, the returned pay is miniscule to the effort they put in. For a volunteer organization, we have a pretty good product.
Yes we pay dues, yes, the IT is antiquated, yes, the PDR system is old, but it does work. Kind of like the guppy.
I've done a lot of ALPA work and continue to do so as I'm sure some of you have. No matter your opinion, you just can't dump on people in a volunteer organization. If you do, then very shortly, you have no one to do the job. Is a badly done job better or worse than no one doing it?
Grow up both of you. And none of this drivel has anything to do with UAL management, title of this thread.

So you claim. What have you done to help fix the problem since you seem to believe you are some kind of IT expert?
Also, isn't it amazing how ALPA has become, as you say, the best airline pilot union in the world in the midst of the information age with "20 years of failed IT"? Methinks thou doth protest (way) too much.
Amazing that such a tech troubled organization could come up with Known Crewmember, the PDR system or the great new United MEC web site, United MEC - ALPA that you claimed wouldn't happen for years.

If ALPA gave me the authority, yes I'd be happy to clean house and outsource a suitable product.

Read my posts, my angst is with Herndon, I've had only compliments for pilot volunteers, well except for Flytolive, that guy is a tool. Providing suitable infrastructure has NOTHING to do with line pilot volunteers. It's up to the BOD/MEC to advocate on our behalf, and you've heard the man. Nothing to see here.

BTW, the infrastructure is more than adequate for the job at hand. If ALPA decides to enter into the eCommerce world and take on Amazon then maybe your absurd standards would be more appropriate.

The authority comes from the pilots through our union's democratic process. Feel free to volunteer or run for office, but it appears it is your way or the highway. Sorry, unionism is a team sport.

Good luck Chicago, you're going to need it.

The best pilot union, an industry leading contract, a great new web site that you predicted was years off, and who is is denying and deflecting? This new web site is due in large part to ALPA Int'l is upgrading its IT with powerful Site Core content management system not to mention adding a premier bulk emailing software, Real Magnet, but you aren't satisfied. Got it.

Best contract, yep, I'm with you. Delivered largely by United pilots. ALPA IT had nothing to do with delivering contract 2012.
Current Sitecore site delivered late and hobbled. Visually it's better than DNN, how could it not be? Aside from search, what exactly did it add?
Since you can repeat the names of the software, do you actually know what theY can do, vs what ALPA IT has implimented?
You have the IT equivalent of shiny jet syndrome. Don't let the glossy wrapper fool you.

Just to be clear, the current Comm committee is doing and has done a stellar job and deserves all the kudos we can heap on them. They delivered despite Herndon, not because of them.

Agreed. Despite Herndon. National has been much more an obstacle than a help.
