Everything is a story, it's how we're wired. Have you ever seen a successful elected official, ALPA or otherwise, run a successful campaign or inspire change based solely on reciting bullet points? Of course you haven't, there's always bias, rhetoric, color, and pandering....through story.

In the digital world we live in it's never been more important for organizations to have a suitable, nimble, responsive, and usable platform to share, and guide, the collective dialog. Herndon continues to fall short of the obligation to provide that resource just as the UAL MEC continues to ignore the importance of such reach. As a union member, I'm not happy about that.

I definitely understood your point, and so I thought I made that clear as it relates to me (or other MIGS) telling ALPA about their opinions on communications, etc.

However, the story is about the UAL Chief Story-Teller, some lady that used to work for Oprah. I am pretty sure she doesn't work for ALPA.

I honestly don't have time for "collective dialog." The more touchey-feeley it is the more I am turned off. I am a "just the facts" type of person. I think younger high-school age people may be interested in stories if they can put their smart-phones down and pay attention, but busy professionals really don't.

Did you guys and gals (pilots) ever stop to think this new story teller isn't about you?

Let's see UAL has around 12,000 pilots and how many other employees?

I agree that the most effective communications are brief and concise.

I also believe that our collective lore provides more unity than if our history was written in bullet points. The battles with Lorenzo, the next chapter of "From Wooden Wings", and lessons learned in the lost decade simply can't be effectively communicated in any other way than through story.

I did something you should try sometime and called my reps. Turns out the United MEC Comm guys that Insler appointed have been working with ALPA Int'l for the last six months on a new MEC web site that sounds promising. If you call your reps they can tell you all about it as they were briefed on it at the MEC mtg last week.

Is "Sitecore" a powerful enough platform for you all? How about "Real Magnet" for bulk mailing. Apparently the ALPA Int'l graphics folks have been most helpful and quite capable.

I am glad to know the Insler Administration is using the peacetime to prepare for the tougher times. BTW Insler has been in office just over eight months.

And the guys working Comm before Insler waited on Sitecore for over a year. Based on national's track record, don't hold your breath. My money is on Herndon stringing the current MEC along until the end of the term, and then starting from "scratch" with the new guys.

A few posts up you made a bold claim about the UAL MEC (wisely) withholding resources while awaiting the new platform. Being placated by a briefing and taking action through administrative actions spurred by a resolution are quite different. Are you aware of any action the MEC has taken, by resolution, on this issue or was that wishful thinking?

Sorry, but we are only a third of the way into Insler's term and the new web site will be launching soon. The comm guys have completed the task of archiving and renaming thousands of source files to enable effective search functions. By all accounts ALPA Int'l IT especially graphics designers could not have been more capable and helpful. You didn't call your reps, did you?

You'll have to find new anti-ALPA talking points.

Who considers yahoo a news website? The majority of stuff posted is opinion news mixed with pop culture junk. They definitely have a target audience.
