Completely incorrect. FDA is only determined by birth year and language in 2nd extension (big mistake BTW). This will get updated with new CBA. I believe FDA right now captures up to late 60’s birthdays (might off a bit).

You would be surprised. Many still have the “gonna have to pry this thing away from me mentality”. If I were 61/62/63, with 30 years, ready to go, I might wait at least until end of 2026, use sick, post trips, take some sort of leave, etc. I know a few doing this.

If I’m a somewhat senior MD guy, I’m going to sit home and get paid, hold out on being displaced for as long as possible, bid training on whatever plane as far out as I can, then retire a week before I start training.

Exactly, to do what with a 75/76 type with no experience on it?

Help me understand. The average newhire is a early/mid 80’s child. The current contract extends the defined benefit bracket to late 60’s hire. To me that means that the average newhire isn’t going to be getting a defined package based on a flat rate under the current contract. Theirs have to be negotiated in a subsequent contract. Where is my error?

Correct and this is the way it always is under each new contract.

a surprising number of people want to check the 747 box before they retire.

It has nothing to do with using the type rating after retirement. My post comes after speaking to a few who intend to do exactly what I just posted. Their motivation isnt that difficult to figure out.
