I flew with him many times and while I would certainly describe him as a character, I'd never consider him a hot head

Why would the IPA get this guys job back? It happened off property, non-work related.

Believe its a moot point now. Think he plead guilty this June/July in some type of plea deal to avoid jail time.

Wrongful termination ?

Don't know the details, but if he was fired before he was convicted or plead guilty, that could have been the reason

Guess by your logic the IPA should help get Marc Gilberts job back too. UPS terminated him before he was convicted.

As distasteful as it may seem, he is/was entitled to union representation. As the legal procedures have run their course, the IPA doesn't have to spend resources to defend someone who would not be allowed to hold the certificate.

I agree with you except for the phrase "as distasteful as it may seem".
No such thing in my books, he's innocent until proven guilty. We only saw snippets of a video. ..but even if we saw more I'd still consider it to be irrelevant.

We fly airplanes for a living. Other people are judges for a living. I leave it to them and to the jury to decide if his actions were "distasteful" or not.

Would he even be able to get an FAA medical with this incident on his record?

IPA has a duty to represent any pilot terminated from employment, process is driven by the Railway Labor Act. Specifically as written in the collective bargaining agreement. Termination process has many steps, some are timely, thus to protect the pilot, the process is followed often to the arbitrator if that is the wish of the pilot. Ultimately, this protects each line pilot by ensuring the company will not attempt to terminate pilots without a specific cause and justification that stands the scrutiny of the entire RLA/CBA process and IPA representation.
Would argue that IPA representation has been very effective since its inception.
