Hey guys, does anybody have any insight as to whether or not people are getting hired without any or very little TPIC?

I expect it to be few if any but I figured I'd ask anyway. Currently at a LCC.

Thanks

My class didn't have anyone (on the civilian side) with less 2-3000 TPIC. All had heavy jet OR extensive international experience, and no one was under 7,000TT.

Not sure what the military guys had.

is it possible at UPS to get a schedule where you would just work one long trip each month, maybe like one 10 day trip with 20 off?

No- With our 3.75-1 Trip-rig and lines built to 85 hours instead of 75, one will usually work 12-14 days straight. And that is if one is Senior enough to hold the one commute lines. Top 30%. Z, 747, MD.

I think there are 1 or 2 lines on the 74&MD that have something like 12 on 16 off per a 28 day window. Reserve recovery lines are another option to get full guarantee pay with reduced duty commitments. Otherwise, if you are looking for that delta 9/21 club thing, it doesn't exist here. Some of the domestic fleet's lines can get into a 4.5 on 8.5 off deal if you live in that particular outstation (gateway) and can also hold the night sort 7/7 lines to that same city: eg. show Mon night at PHL then fly nite sort out and backs to phl until Sat 5 am ending in phl, with a positional DH on both ends.

You could drop (trip transfer) into less working days but it comes with a pay reduction.

You could conflict bid to get more paid time off...If you are senior.

If you're junior, and IF you can hold RSV, you MIGHT be able to get 14 on, 14 off on RSV. It won't always work out, sometime you will be working week 7 & 8 and then again week 1 & 2 in the next bid period.

Also don't make plans on day 15, 16 and maybe 17,18 for that matter. You can be sent on a trip extending into days off with a few restrictions.

This is why you will get reserve as a junior pilot here, those senior guys that might otherwise bid reserve seem to be tapering because of the new reserve rules. It's entirely possible to get 14 on/14 off. I've only heard of someone going to day 17 once, but being extended one or two days is pretty common these days. Hopefully that disappears once we get more bodies on property- we've been very short for a long time.

There was a 74 recovery line with the entire 2nd pay period off.

Not 10/18 (we work 28 day "months" but not as hard as some of these guys will have you think. Depends what fleet. Also consider where you live. There are some cities on some fleets where you can have company paid layovers, like phl or anc on the Z

Do you think that it is much different as a line holder? I found myself having to add a 4 day cushion on my bids for an event I needed to cover. I have had end of trip extensions and reroutes several times this year. Late arrival pay is nice, but not worth missing something important over. That was a deal with the devil we made once upon a time.
