2017 UPS Hiring

This is why you will get reserve as a junior pilot here, those senior guys that might otherwise bid reserve seem to be tapering because of the new reserve rules. It's entirely possible to get 14 on/14 off. I've only heard of someone going to day 17 once, but being extended one or two days is pretty common these days. Hopefully that disappears once we get more bodies on property- we've been very short for a long time.
I've been extended twice already. Both times domestically, both times relatively short trips that they had no one else to cover. The contractual restrictions aren't going to prevent extensions into days off when we are short staffed.
RSV is going junior now, that trend will most likely continue. With the new (2 week) OCV option, those that would bid RSV to get a month off won't have to do that any more.

The ten year statement in terms of seniority needs to be taken with a grain of salt. We didn't hire for what, at least 10 out of those five? You aren't that much further from the bottom (%)than a guy with one year. Sorry.
I think I mentioned the qualifier of fleet. I had talked to a very senior (88) a year or so back that said with all of that seniority on the MD he couldn't get as good of a vacation as on the Z because they didn't publish the 14/14 type trips that the Z can have. OCV fixes that for most people.

Do you think that it is much different as a line holder? I found myself having to add a 4 day cushion on my bids for an event I needed to cover. I have had end of trip extensions and reroutes several times this year. Late arrival pay is nice, but not worth missing something important over. That was a deal with the devil we made once upon a time.
The new RSV rules are another deal with the devil. I don't even mind the extensions. At least on RSV, unlike you as a lineholder, I can generally see the extension develop before they actually assign it. Its in the tea leaves, so to speak.
The flexibility and extra coverage that the RSV extension days gives them, is where we may have given them more than we got in return. Just MHO.

Thought of a new phrase for dealing with our stagnation, furlough etc. over the last decade. Alternate Growth.

It might have been alternative growth, but it definitely wasn't fake news.

So to the question ...
Yes, based on seniority, fleet and seat.
Unlikely as a new hire.

Nope, but guys getting hired now should have a good ride. I just flew with a guy that said he was the plug on Z, hired in June, and he said he got a VTO line. That didn't used to happen.

We need the 777 on property. lol- So we can get those UAL/DL 10 on 18 off lines. Other than the one leg long haul to asia, one leg back, how does UAL/DL build those 10/20 lines?
We could have gotten closer to those if we got a trip rig adjustment lower, didn't happen. Not sure if the EB even pushed for it?

I could barely hold reserve at all much less anything near the days that would have worked for me. VTOs did seem to trickle down quite far in the last bid on multiple fleets though, IMO, for my F/S/D nothing has really changed since I got hired.

all you pessimistic/sky-is-falling guys....I'm around 50% on the ANC MD and have have averaged 8-9 days per 28 day pay period of work for the past 4 years. Looking at 38 days off after this trip using a 7 day vacation...such whiners!
