MD-11 flights being canceled out of ANC due to lack of crews...in the middle of June!
Not nearly as many retirements as we had hoped, but pilots are taking time off via OCV in droves. Same difference as if more had retired.

I've bumped into a handful (concerning number?) of guys selling back their vacation days this year. Personally, loved my 5 weeks of OCV but may try out the slide option in 2018. Also, by chance, my orig vac bid weeks this year covered 85% of my awarded line - OCV really only covered 2-3 days I would have been otherwise obligated to. It still made all the difference in having a huge block of weeks off but it's doubtful OCV is breaking the UPS staffing bank. Does feel, though, as if the rumors of SDF wanting 600 and ATL only authorizing 300 newhires in 2017 to be on point.

Even "only 2-3 days" of additional lost productivity per crewmember taking OCV adds up into a real lack of bodies.

30? That would be nice. They have had classes in the past of mid 30 numbers. But it has been awhile since that large of one class. Decades. Maybe ATL has let SDF up the numbers?

What an incredibly different hiring landscape! These guys today are turning down multiple great jobs to come here. And I'm sure Atlas is hating UPS right now since we are hiring all their captains.
