Neither. Do a little research. The consensus is either inconclusive or it started in Kansas. There is very little chance it actually started in Spain.

What provisions in the current pos contract allows them to give everyone a payout without pilot approval?
How did this happen?
I should not take home less money simply because the co initially negotiated a contract with razor thin margins . Not my fault . We work out asses off for these people and at every turn we get F’d over .
I know what’s going on I’m the industry right now, I get that but I’m sure there are other alternatives if they just think outside the box for once and be proactive instead of reactive.

”While it's unlikely that the “Spanish Flu” originated in Spain, scientists are still unsure of its source. France, China and Britain have all been suggested as the potential birthplace of the virus, as has the United States, where the first known case was reported at a military base in Kansas on March 11, 1918.”

I'm not sure that furloughing people would actually help senior pilots in the long run. Depending on how the industry recovers, being exceptionally short on pilots because they were furloughed may hurt the airline massively on the back end. The 60 day LOA allows time for longer term planning and negotiating.
In the end, TSA went out of business because it didn't have enough pilots. If we furlough pilots now instead of taking a temporary pay reduction, the company *and* the pilots may end up in trouble during the recovery.
