What if the desired percentage was 8.7%? What would be your FPM then?
BTW, your example is correct, when the goal is a three degree or 5.24% slope, which is most common for aviation.

Yea, It's %. There are some DP's that have a pretty high climb gradient. Like the Coney and Maspeth climb out of LGA.

Well... Two consecutive Vacancy Notices with CA slots. GTFO of town. That can't be right lol
Got my iPad on the 10th. Granted I haven't done my IBT yet (I know, I know doing it tomorrow lol), but so far the Navtech app and interface has been a truly horrible experience.

It will make a bit more sense after you do the IBT but mostly you just have to use it. Under "Documents" you will find Navtech info if you hunt a bit. I'm going to go through that with a fine toothed comb to learn how they do things.
We're all used to the 10-2, 10-3, 10-9, 11-1, etc. layout of the Jepps. This is a bit different. I think with time it will become better.
And in the end it will be a lot better than carrying around a 40 lb bag and doing revisions every trip.

Why NavTech as opposed to Jepps? Cost?
I'm on my 2nd trip using my iPad 2 with the software. There's a learning curve, no doubt about it, but I'm not finding it to be awful. I'm not sure Jeppesen electronic would be better. We're all used to the paper and there will be a period of adjustment.

The Jepp app would be better - that said from using it for the past two years. The learning curve would be in getting used to navigating the application, but the charts are exactly what we lug around. Also, Jeppesen has been making improvements to their app, trying to keep up with what Foreflight has been adding as far as features. NavTech has a bit of work to do to match the features that Jepp has, plus we have to get used to the differences in how the data is presented. I'm not quite sure I'm ready to shoot an ILS to mins with the NavTech charts just yet...

You didn't really just compare the Jepp app to Foreflight did you?. They are worlds apart in quality. The Jepp app gets the job done barely. Foreflight is not even in the same playing field. If Jepp has been trying to keep up with them, they have done a very poor job. They're about 5 years behind in my opinion which is an eternity in the tech world.

FltPlan.com on an ipad has everything you need. All plates, maps, SIDs & STARS. It's free. You just have to update it when the revisions come out. Takes less than 10 minutes. It'll even save your navigation log, which has all of the waypoints, VOR Freq's, time to navigate, time remaining, and fuel used. Enroute you can pull up your navlog and have everything you need. You don't even need an internet connection in flight. It's pretty cool. I'm not an ipad guy.....Not at all. I learned it in short order and use it every flight. Of course, I'm using it in general aviation so the FAA would let it be used in 121 for 15 more years. LOL!

... 5 * 250 = 1250. It also assumes no wind; using ground speed accounts for wind.
