Excellent. I really hope that is indeed what happens. It would certainly help some of us knowing our careers are progressing towards something (and the pay doesn't hurt).

Did someone REALLY complain about possible FAR 117 implications of having to update our iPads on a day off? This makes me want to just start randomly smashing my flight case (with paper Jepps) over pilots heads. What is wrong with you people? Probably the same people that have not filled out the survey yet. Why? Because you can only do it while on duty?

I thought that was pretty ridiculous as well. I'm sorry, but hitting a freaking Download Now button, while at the hotel resting, is not taking time away from my rest. No clue who is coming up with that.

Hope you have a 72 hour overnight if you're planning on pushing the download button on an overnight. With the exception of maybe 1 or 2 hotels, the wifi is pathetic pretty much everywhere we stay.

So you are responsible for finding wifi? All airline ipads should come with data plans provided.

Since hotel Wi-Fi can be spotty, they better figure out fast crewroom Wi-Fi for us to download updates before a trip starts.

Soooo, what percentage of the pilot group doesn't have 'real' WiFi at home or the crash pad? Isn't it just a little ridiculous to complain about the iPad because of hotel WiFi or rest implications?

Yes sir. That is ridiculous.

The whole point of this EFB thing is that it's so easy a caveman could do it!

If we check for updates before we start a trip, we should have everything we need for the duration of the trip - just like now as we're not obligated to get updates that are placed in our v-files after we're flying. (If the app works as intended, it should use the current data when the effective date rolls over. What happened a few days ago when we got the pretty red box should not have happened. The Jepp app handles chart changes just fine...)

Also, why can't the company set up wifi in the crew rooms on the intranet that will allow us to update during what seems to be more and more 3-hour airport appreciation periods. We don't have to rely on home or hotel wifi and those who feel compelled to update while "on the clock" can do so. With their current firewall rules, they don't have to worry about us streaming porn over the company network during those sits

I know. That makes too much sense. I'll slither back under my rock now.
