In Threat and Error Management this would be known as a "barrier". Barriers are good.
This is exactly why our "rolling" takeoff's have us hold the breaks until 70% N1. No rejected takeoff if you get a TO config warning.

How geeky is it to be having a back and forth about rolling vs static takeoffs?

So from what I've read, average trips are 3-5 days and very few day trips out of ORF. What would be the benefit of staying on reserves once you are able to hold a line? (Assuming you are local) It sounds like you get all the crappy trips if you bid reserves.

Also, how much does one usually make in Perdiem per month?

If you want to do mostly day trips bid ready reserve and you'll be home almost every night. I know that usually goes to the most junior guy in Philly....not sure about ORF.

You'll earn roughly $200-$400 for per diem.

If you are in ORF, the lines are absolutely horrible. I was awarded a line for October, and based on the lines in September, I will most likely bid reserve or relief. I think I counted maybe 5 out of 60 or so that were somewhat commutable. Most of them start around 4-5 AM and finish around midnight. On reserve, I have been treated fairly well, and can generally get 3 full days at home (drive from RDU around 3.5 hours.). If I were to accept whatever line I end up with for October I will most likely be driving in the night before, and driving back the day after the trip ends.

So is it easy to bid ready reserve as a junior guy in ORF?
What do the senior captains bid? I'm curious what makes one stay with a regional after 10yrs other than taking a step back in pay.
How much difference is there in lifestyle (time off) between a junior FO and a senior FO or captain?

If I interviewed and was offered a class, how much flexibility is there to move a class to a later date? (Like a month or two)

I'm guessing the school is 4 weeks? How long does it take to go from day one in class to completion of IOE?
How are you paid while in class?

Thanks again for answering all my questions, I've read the entire thread to try and answer for myself.... No luck. Maybe my dumb questions will provide answers for the next guy

All questions you should ask at your interview to get current and accurate answers.

Ready reserve seems to go pretty junior from my experience. I am the DC ready and slept in my own bed 28 nights in july ( I live in base )

Shouldn't be an issue to change class dates.

Training is just shy of 2 months if you pass everything first go. I started indoc in march and started IOE in may. Only break I had was 5 days between systems and the sim.

You are paid you min guarantee while in training. 75 hours x $26.83hr

Welcome aboard! Study hard but don't forget to take a break on the weekends!
