That's the FCM definition, not mine.

With the parking on yeah. But not if your feet are on the brakes.

Not true. There's seven Config Warnings including the Parking Brake. In the previous example where ATC gives you an immediate takeoff clearance, you may rush through a checklist. Maybe you just de-iced and have the stab trim nose-up 15 degrees or forgot to set the flaps. Either way you'll be reminded of your error at 70% N1....hopefully you're not halfway down the runway when you reach that power setting.

I think he was only referencing the parking brake vs pedal brakes.

Clearly there other other triggers for a T/O config warning.

I'm not sure how doing a static takeoff will protect you from what you mentioned above.

Has anyone actually chimed in and said that AWAC only does static T/O?

As far as I know my airline's T/O warning isn't based on N1, it's just throttle position.

Unless you are really slow at pushing the power up you should be at T/O power well before 60-80 knots, and you'll get a config warning far before you reach that speed, leaving eons of time and runway to do a slow reject. And before any of that I would hope that you have checked for a T/O Config OK green message?

Well the 70% N1 prior to brake release mitigates that threat. That's why it's in the book (at least at AWAC). It only takes one crew to really mess it up and make the paper. 60-80 knots quickly becomes 100 knots if you're slow to react to a warning cause it's midnight, it's your 6th leg and you're taking off a wet or contaminated runway at DCA (7,200 ft long).

If you abort after moving forward there is a minimum 15 min cool down time IIRC and you must re-validate the release. Going to 70% and getting a warning with the brakes set, you just taxi off the runway, re-run the checklist and go. 2 mins tops, zero paperwork involved, no harm no foul.

In Threat and Error Management this would be known as a "barrier". Barriers are good.

But then how can I do the maverick turn onto the active????

The one where we're at 132% N1 before even getting within 45 degrees of lining up.

Psh..rolling takeoffs are for amateurs. A real pro will taxi straight perpendicular to the centerline or even turn a little to get closer to the edge lights. At a slow crawl, wait to the last possible second, then max out the tiller and do a big boy turn like an A340 so you can use every INCH of the runway.

How senior is ORF? What kind of trips are the folks based there doing? I live there so that is why I ask.

I am currently doing the overseas contract thing 3K TT 2200 TPIC will have my ATP done in Sept at recurrent. If my phone doesn't start ringing in the new year I may think about taking a turn in the barrel at a regional. Being able to live in base would great. W

What goes on after 2015 is the least of my worries so all the doom and gloom folks can take a break.
