This must be numbers for air group as a whole, so add in Horizon and I guess it’s possible. Hard to imagine a scenario where Alaska airlines would need to hire that many given the current path.

Don’t forget about the pilots leaving for other airlines.

Does this double count internal hires to Alaska from Horizon and then external hires to backfill to Horizon?

Yes, you can look at a Horizon pilot hired to Alaska and then an external hire to Horizon as two, but other than Schoolhouse costs, there is really only one hire.

Unfortunately, this will be a very small number per year.

Are folks really leaving to Envoy?

Yes. One already left and I know of at least two more that have/had interviews there. Crazy. Just ran into another FO that was leaving for a corporate job in hometown, which makes more sense.

I don’t blame these guys for leaving. There’s nothing to look forward to here. A toxic employee culture, stagnation, and a junk contract are all that we offer.

Envoy is hiring direct to the left seat domiciled in NY with a hefty bonus but with a 2 yr bonus contract (You have to pay it back if you leave before those 2 yrs). Probably people with 1000 hrs 121 looking to get 121 PIC as quick as possible and/or possibly people who's Virgin domicile evaporated in the NE?

It could make sense to leave for a six figure job in your hometown, with flow to AA.

I would leave the airlines rather than spend my career doing a transcon commute. BTDT, got the tee shirt.

Horizon pilots and Alaska pilots are not counted in the same group. Two different airlines. If Alaska Airlines posts a hiring number it is for Alaska pilots. I would imagine Horizon Airlines does the same. No connection between the two.
