just went to look for it and can’t find it now. I swear I saw it! Split makes sense tho, since they only say 70% total and horizon/Skywest are part of the system.

Okay, just found it.
alaskasworld, covid subpages, latest news and updates, scroll down to more updates, further reducing our capacity dated March 25. 56% reduction of mainline.

I think many of us will be replaced by a SkyWest pilot flying an EMB-175. A scope clause never looked so good.

exactly..... meanwhile, over at our competition, they’re discussing regional flying going back to mainline.

This Scopeless contract is just the gift that keeps on giving the whole year through Clark.

This is just not true... The CSM for the 175 is to high to remain viable. Alaska management knows the need at least 180 NB on the back end of this to make it. The 175 can plug short term holes but are not a long term solution.

True. CASM on E175 is probably double a B737. If the mainline fleet on the other side of this is 180, AS will have way too many E175s (62TOT/30 HRZ/32 SKW).

Cheers - Rob.

Why do we have 175s with Horizon crews flying from Seattle to Kansas City then?

Because the company cannot instantly make every change required, the moment it’s necessary. It’s a process, not an event.

Ok I’ll try again:

If we have 60 bookings going to Kansas City from Seattle in October who do you think will fly it? Horizon or Alaska?

Why do we have the strategy of developing a market with a 175 and then switching to a 737 when the bookings allow?

It’s cheaper to run a 175 when you don’t have a full aircraft. And the bottom 1/2 of the seniority will suffer for it.

Not that the majority of the pilots in the last 1000 seniority numbers left at AS will care. They didn’t ask for scope and during the last furlough they were picking up premium.

I listened to the guys who were furloughed last time when I flew with them on reserve. It’s every man for himself at AS when times are hard.
