If OTZthunderchicken is all knowing and all powerful? Why didn't he tip off the pilot group about the EILs or REILS before they were brought up? If he knows the real numbers of required staffing? Why not tip off the union instead of pontificating on a public forum?

I swear to god, you sound like Al Gore in the Manbearpig episode of SouthPark......you don't have any friends and rely on this page to justify your existence. Do us all a favor and enjoy retirement. Let the adults handle this. Enjoy your incredibly overpriced and low build quality Italian boat

I didn’t because Mea had already mentioned it a month before it was pushed out... check out The AS/B6/AA thread... here is the post:

Case for Zero furloughs if company could get some kind of 12 month guaranteed participation.

Furlough cash relief
7.6 million per month

Current cash relief Incentive/VELOA
5.8 million per month

Furloughs have significant costs too. I hate to be too optimistic but maybe.

Default Union Dues during tough times

You are posing a valid and straight forward question ............ Unions depend and must have service fees/ dues paid in order for them to survive in their plush offices and nice salaries, this is all a true statement of fact. While Unions proclaim to save your job and provide representation, the whole story is not always told to the membership that is paying month after month.
The straight cold fact is that your Union will not survive unless they get the funds, however it would be interesting to note whether your MEC or National Officers have acknowledged and confirmed what is in fact happening with your monies. Hold their feet to the fire, demand answers, they are your representation. One thing that you can do and never hardly talked about is to write the Union and request that a portion of your Union fees not be used for PAC purposes, this can and will result in a portion of your Union fees being returned to you, there is a way to dispute this and it is called Germaine and Non-Germaine expenses of PAC fees.

While there have certainly been airline union officers who have abused their positions (I can think of a few examples myself), by all appearances and accounts the current AS ALPA leadership group is exemplary, about the best you could hope for.

Wrong. Unions have not been able to contribute money to PACs for a long time (nor political candidates). They can endorse candidates normally based on the narrow interests of the union members in the context of their employment and related issues, which often translates to labor and aviation friendly pols. That endorsement informs the member's voting decisions, but you ultimately make your own choices perhaps balancing your personal economic interests with broad social issues.

Unions might (not sure?) still be able to create and sponsor a PAC which is advocating for their specific interests.

Slats, as an unrepresented King Air Pilot, I’d suggest you do a little research before posting what you believe, as fact.

ALPA PAC money is voluntarily donated by concerned pilots outside of the dues obligation. No one pays into the PAC unless they have personally decided to put a little money where their mouth is.

Paying dues is the cost of creating, maintaining, and defending a contract. Nothing is free, so why expect work rules, representation, and advocacy for free?

Default ALPA National

The offices are not "plush".... And the salaries are voted on at a national meeting as part of the agenda. ALPA is an "bottom up" organization; meaning all LEC votes count, even in national issues.

The only reason most of us are working is due to the PAC making sure that the CARES act included protections for airline workers.

I contribute directly to the PAC on top of my union dues. I consider it the most valuable contribution I make toward protecting my career. Over the last few months these contributions have protected my job and kept me from unemployment. Probably the single best investment I have ever made.

The latest plan I just saw has LAX and SEA growing and SFO closing... This is still fluid but appears to be the direction we are heading.

Have you been to our Union's office? If that's plush I would hate to see your idea of Spartan.

I'd bet dollars to dimes you grew up in a conservative-think household and never had much exposure to the other side of the tracks. I grew up in a union mill town. People made middle class incomes until decades of union weakening and eventual ownership by the Koch brothers.

SFO 320 and LAX 320 have to close and SEA 320 open for just 30 planes. If LAX is growing, LAX 320 would have to be closed which would be ~ -185 CA, -185 FOs, so are you saying they're going to add more than +185 CA/FOs on the Boeing in LAX?
