“ It is possible that no deal gets done. Both transactions faced a high hurdle for the Justice Department’s blessing because the Biden administration has vowed to crack down on consolidation.

Executives for all three airlines said their preferred deal would help them compete better with the top four U.S. carriers — American, Delta, United and Southwest — which control about three-quarters of the domestic market.

Spirit, however, has raised concerns about a JetBlue takeover because of that airline’s alliance with American in the Northeast, a partnership the Justice Department last year sued to undo.”

Spirit/Frontier merger was a like-kind merger…Would not have concentrated a presence in a region..Likely would have past the test in this administration.
Spirit/Jetblue merger would not be a like-kind merger and creates a concentrated presence in the Northeast and Florida. Will not likely be approved by this administration.
Friends at Frontier and Spirit are disappointed by todays news. Friends at Spirit are horrified at the prospect of being churned into Jetblue morass.

sure they couldn’t do some wheeling and dealing and maybe 1/3 of spirit goes To frontier and the rest to JB to get this merger approved . So the “shareholders” can make their $.

NK guy here. You should have seen the celebration on the merger chats with the news today. You must be friends with the 12 guys at NK who were rooting for F9/Indigo. I would guess less than 10% of the NK pilot group was pulling for F9 and that’s being generous.

Congrats. I think it's a great deal for both airlines and will allow you guys to take advantage of a lot of opportunities going forward.

This is a long game play by B6, so the forecasted economic downturn should hopefully be just a bump in the road.

Thanks. I think it was the best outcome given that the other two options were negotiating a JCBA with a vehemently anti-labor investment company that thinks it’s 2009 or going it alone with our lame duck management. I guess we’ll see but I’m cautiously optimistic.

Seriously? JB has most of the NE politicians in their pocket and those in the SE, Midwest, and West don’t GAD. And by the time this gets to the reviewing stage sometime after Nov., this administration will be castrated politically. DOJ may do some proforma objections, but they don’t want a fight over this.

hahaha all my buddies at NK are stoked not working for F9. Staying independent wasn’t an option so they much rather would have had b6 instead of lord Frankie and f9
