We had a brief stint of ADTG at my previous employer. There were ways to get lots of soft time with it. If a trip had a victory lap at the beginning or end like a GEG or PDX turn or similar you could usually get someone to pick it up because it would pay a min day for 2 hours of flying and you didn't mind dropping it because if your other leg to or from the overnight was something short you were usually not loosing much by giving it up. On the flip side, there were certain pairings where the company could win too.

Pros and cons to hard cred VS higher adg. Obviously if they are the same value hard cred min is better. I'd take the higher adg over a lower hard number. More days off for pilot group as a whole.
Hard credit means company would no longer build pairings with short days to begin or end a trip. Commuters definitely would be bitten as commutablity would tank from "optimizing".
Whichever solution is chosen will completely change pairing construction.
