Ah no, I was not comparing our contract to SWA, in almost every way it is superior. I was refuting the every FO over there is making 280k with 20 days off.
Real numbers I have seen are
16.7 days off and 217k average for FO’s at SWA and an 11 year upgrade 😱 AS numbers are 166k and 14.3 days off and a 4.5 year upgrade. That is a totally unacceptable spread but it is a far cry from 20 days off and 280k.
Are some FO’s making 280+ at SWA, absolutely… most not with anywhere near 20 off, some dropping to 0 and only picking up are.

SWA FO’s with the same seniority as an Alaska FO that can upgrade make equal to or more than what they’d make as a Captain with more days off that’s a fact. Nobody should care what seat they’re in to make that money.

They drop their lines to zero and only pick up premium… We idolize the SWA group that does this, call them the norm, but when our guys do it, we label them “Premium *****s.”

Not counting the picking up of premium part…. I idolize the ability to drop a trip…. Or trade… or shift,… or change my assigned schedule in any way other than pilot to pilot. Sounds magical….

You missed the average part and I absolutely think it’s around $280k. I have 4 working days on my schedule next month due to vacation. I’ll clear 200 TFP’s in June by working premium when I want and still have 15 days off. The facts are we’re short staffed and it’s a buyers market. When we’re fat on pilots, which is what the company wants, those numbers will go down.

And though it’s still not close to Alaska and the big 3, our upgrade went down to a little over 8 years in latest award. It’ll continue to go down.

We’d have similar upgrade times if we had the same amount of days off on reserve as y’all have sadly our NC has no desire to shoot for that.

Alaska’s upgrade time is going to start increasing significantly over this current bid and the ones that follow, as the Airbus pilots transition. The 4.5 year captains in Seattle, many of whom haven’t even been trained will lose their spots. I’d guess by the time it all shakes out junior captain will be 6-7 years.

The 4.5 year upgrade is the only thing keeping a lot of people around. Even with a contract, if that upgrade time does increase, so will attrition.
