Thanks for clarifying that.

Not sure if it’s been covered here, but wondering if the LAX base is required to cover trips out of SNA or other SoCal airports or is it strictly start and finish in LAX? Thank you

A few lines (soon to be trips with PBS) are built starting and ending out of SNA for the LAX base.

Reserve pilots are required to cover both, tho I think in the case of SNA, they'll show you starting out in LAX, and limoed out to SNA.

No other SoCal airports are treated like that.

Point of confusion for noobs, the FA's have several additional SOCAL satellite bases, plus SAN. So any talk of BUR, SAN, etc only applies to FA's. Just SNA for pilots.

If you acknowledge a reserve trip out of SNA, you may need to call them to arrange the limo. Most of the folks who live south of LAX would rather just drive to (and park) at SNA.

On reserve at LAX, they technically only have to report to LAX. The company will limo them to wherever.

As a reserve pilot in LA, I got limo’d to BUR, SNA, SAN (a lot!). I’ve seen ONT as well. In one example, I even saw a 130am limo to LAS to operate a LAS-SEA flight. That one wasn’t a rsv assignment, it was a trip made into regular opentime and picked up by a lineholder.

Yep, on Reserve they can do whatever they want, limoing you from LAX to SNA, and all those other satellite airports, in addition to cobbling up whatever other weird trip they need to, and dropping it in Open Time if necessary in order to keep our metal moving.

However, the original trips that are built to be bidded on from month to month will either start and finish out of LAX (the VAST majority), or SNA.

Yes they can DHD or limo you anywhere after you report to LAX, I've seen LAS, SAN, and PSP limos. Even baked into regular trips, but that might have been during covid.

Yes, you only have to get yourself to SNA if you bid for it. I doubt anyone is getting an SNA line they didn't want, goes pretty senior.

PBS might make it possible to get an SNA trip inadvertently... if you're a commuter or live in Ventura, might want to filter those out of your bid.

True.... If you're LA based, but never ever want to have to start a trip out of SNA, you'd better remember to filter it out of your bid each and every month to avoid getting a nasty surprise.
