Like I said, I don't think it's an issue at all, so not worth wasting any resources that could be spent on other, actual issues.
I mean how are you going to solve it? Can't trade with family? Can't trade with people who's primary residence is within 1 mile of yours, since you might be friends? Need to check a box on every trade certifying that you don't know the guy from Adam, and have no relationship with him?
The problem is that it's a total non-starter to use "motive" as a basis for trading policy. Whatever scheme you come up with has to apply equally to everybody, and I suspect the unintended consequences would be worse than the problem supposedly being solved.

It’s been mentioned a few times. Hawaiian contract has restrictions around summer and Christmas vacation. If a pilot decides they don’t want that vacation then everyone junior to that pilot gets to bid on it again. Seems perfectly reasonable and eliminates any possibility of nefarious vacation trading. Just because you and your buddies don’t do it or heard of it doesn’t mean it’s not an issue. Why should the junior person be able to get Christmas vacation through a trade? Vacation should be use it or let others have it. Not something that you can horde and trade away for favors.
Why not? Because it’s a mutual trade. The why stop that at just vacation? Why not stop trip trading, again why should a junior guy be able to hold what is considered a “senior” trip?

If you don’t understand why Christmas/summer vacation is different than a trip I don’t really know what to tell you.

But that summer/ Christmas vacation belongs to the pilot who was awarded it. They can do whatever they want with it because it's theirs. I don't see anything wrong with them trading it to anyone, and it's not anyone's business but the two pilots involved.

The intent of this provision is to allow a pilot to drop a Flight Grouping that they would otherwise not be able to drop due to minimum staffing. It is not intended for senior pilots to bid for Flight Groupings in order to drop them to junior pilots who could not otherwise hold them
If the MEC feels at any time that this provision is being abused, it may at its sole discretion direct that this function of the Program be disabled.

As a senior pilot, this doesn’t actually affect me, but frankly your position doesn’t make sense to me.

Looks like just a couple more years before I can hold Christmas off with vacation. I can't wait to sell it to the highest bidder!

Sounds like a lot of treadin’ on you at Hawaiian.
