I hear a lot of PDX guys say they have the best lines... I honestly think our lines in all our bases are terrible. Unless maybe you are in the top 10% in base and live in the base.
From what I have seen, VX lines really are better then AS's. I think your lines are propped up by the significant number of transcon's you fly though. Pretty much 5 hours a day over here.
10 or so years ago LA had by far the best lines here, I would say they really are the worst lines currently.

Company wants a 5 year equipment lock. You have been here a while. What the company wants the company gets. If we blow the doors off this merger we might be voting on a JCBA next summer. SLI if we had our hair on fire would be done first of the year 2018. That wide open range would then be open 2023...maybe. Union feels only 3 bases would need protection or a fence; SFO, SEA, PDX. From all of the legal and historical context gathered to this point a 10 year fence would probably be the most likely. If the optimistic time line above is achieved, that has those three domiciles fenced to 2028... Cheers

TWA/Ozark did, if that counts as "recent" though it was the only merger that was in keeping with the Allegheny/Mohawk Merger Protective Provisions.

I did hear from a friend that all of the phone pre-screen interviews that were pending were cancelled due to the transition from their new pilot recruiters back to the company website...so...whatever that is worth.
I'm sure that sucked for the guys sitting there waiting for a pre-screen call to be told....nothing.

"I'd think that if the company wants to have equipment locks to save money I bet they'd be willing to pay for it."
-I couldn't agree more
"Cant find any recent merger that had domicile fences or narrow body fences....UAL/ Continental, Delta/ NWA, AA/ LCC and SWA/ Airtran.....and a 5 yr equip. lock...Cant find one for domestic narrow body in those mergers........2 years is what we have now I think...."
-Well check back in two years... You will see them, that I am confident of
"Oh..........I thought I was on the "Alaska Air Hiring" thread."
You are right. I remember when I was waiting for a phone call, I couldn't careless about all this company banter...
Here is the good news on the hiring side
AS right now 6/22/16 is forecasting 162 new hires in 2017, 57 for the rest of 2016
on the VX side... AS is hoping to have control of the process by mid to early November. VX will have to hire about 105 pilots ahead of the implementation of the JCBA and about 60 additional to fill spots.
SO over the next 18 mo's that would have the company hiring around 380 pilots
Above are the best case #'s which hopefully turn out to be the case
The lowest total I have heard of is a 250ish # between the two companies
