It even went as far our instructors asking us if we wanted to see the new 78 sim after I repeatedly said no “aren’t you excited? You’ll be flying heavies very soon?” Absolutely wild
I was seat subbing for a hiring round with no upgrades, 5 captains involuntarily downgraded on the last reduction bid, and an another reduction bid on the horizon:

“You should really check out the 787 sim” when I politely declined. “You were so lucky to get hired when you did.” I could only sit there dumbfounded.

Add in some realistic growth and you get maybe 10 years.

Account for those who bypass, you can maybe typically sneak in at the 8 year point (but then stagnate and maybe get forced back down).
5 8-9 year captains in SFO were involuntarily downgraded. 9-10 year SFO captains are next. More at risk with the proffering reduction bid shenanigans at play on the current reduction bid round.

Lol, seriously. You were lucky to get hired when you did?? The last several years have probably been some of the worst times to get hired here — the complete opposite of what everyone else in the industry was experiencing.

If you give a pilot a bag of gold they will complain about how heavy it is.

While that’s a popular statement to make in the aviation business (I’ve said it myself), I’d argue that I’m not really seeing the same complaints over at UAL or DAL.

I've got friends around the same seniority at every major. We've all got similar complaints.

Comparison is the thief of joy… No airline is the same

Seriously. Of course we are taking about the most sheltered and out of touch part of the pilot group.

What do you mean proffering reduction bid shenanigans?

It’s how the contract works. Vacancies are filled first. And for every LAX and SFO pilot that bids out, it fulfills one reduction requirement. Say there are 17 SFO CA reductions. But 20 bid out to SAN CA, that would mean no one in SFO CA has to be involuntarily reduced, AND, created 3 proffer new spots for SFO CA for anyone to bid in.

He was hired here in 2018, which means he got the upgrade in 2022/23. Something that has not been seen at AS in a long time. Yet he still complains endlessly since upgrading. His 8 yrs here total, with literally half as Captain.
