Hard to say. When we transition to all Airbus it will be a different company schedule wise. New bases mean people leave and openings occur. Any previous info has now expired.

IWA is and will continue to be one of the longer waits in the system. There are about half a dozen guys trying to get there now. The junior FO has been on property over a year, and he got TDYd out for May. More than half of the FO list in IWA could hold captain either in IWA or elsewhere in the system.
Rumors are that IWA will be expanded with a couple more airplanes as soon as the transition is over, which will definitely help. However, it is a very stagnant base. Like the previous poster said, base expansion in the next couple of years will help, but I would plan on 18-24 months to get to IWA and then you will be pleasantly surprised if it happens faster.

Yikes- that won’t work. Commuting to other bases for day trips sounds brutal. I’ll just hold off for now and wait it out. To get some historical context, when hiring was going on like gang busters, was iaw easier to hold? Also is it impossible to bunch days off to form a vacation without using actual vacation?
Thanks for the help!

The ability to commute varies wildly here depending on the commute. I commuted for about a year from PHX to LAX. It wasn’t bad, but I am thankful now every morning when I wake up in my own bed that I don’t have to do it anymore. However, to commute from PHX to PGD long term would have been a miserable nightmare.
The answer to your vacation questions depends largely on your seniority and base. Some guys will say yes, but many will say only occasionally is that possible. As a junior guy in IWA, I find that I can typically string at least one Monday-Friday off a month without too much trouble. Getting a weekend off doesn’t happen too often at my seniority level.

Reserve is 11 or 12 days off minimum per month depending on the month. There is no consistency to number of days off at a time. Could be one, could be more. Single days off are common unless you bid to avoid them. Remember most all trips are single days. I personally usually try to front load or end load my reserve month. That will give a couple of longer blocks (4-5 days) off at the beginning or end. I did not do this in May, so I have 5 single days off, 2 two days off, and 1 three day period off.
Side note: The company has been experimenting a lot lately with multi-day reserve pairings in most bases. So far, 4 days have been the longest that they have scheduled in one block. The system really doesn’t need them, so we are not sure why they are going there.

I believe the multi day reserve periods are so you can’t drop one in the middle.
If you have a string of four reserve days and they need to ship you off to another base it isn’t a problem. It’s been a while but I’ve been given a 90 minute callout for a four day sit out of base before.

Yeah, that would make sense, but last week when we had a 2 day R14 on the schedule, they called me out instead, moved my off day and sent me out overnight into my previous day off. So, I don’t think they have any idea what they are doing.
