It almost sounds like the comapny was planning on you taking the extension, when they called, this is not correct. When you reach the end of your FDP and the comapny asks for you to extend you may tell them yes or no, but they are NOT supposed to factor in the extension before the flight. The purpose of the extension is for operational recovery, not planning. Keep in mind if your extension is greater than 30 min up to two hours, you are required to have 30 hours rest before you can extend again within 168 hours.

Food for thought: How many other companies have a thread on here arguing if they can be extended past 16 hrs or not?

I'm hearing rumors about a spirit merger or possibly frontier. What are some thoughts on that?

While anything is possible, either are very highly unlikely in my opinion. What both of those companies do, and what Allegiant does, are a lot different. I don't see it happening.

It was always my understanding that one could never go over 16 hours RAP.
Crew services is saying that you can go up to 16 hours, and then extend yourself upto 18 hours RAP.
Example, I'm on R6. I get called a 12:00 to do a rescue flight. When I tried to figure out if this was legal, I did my FDP +4 hours and then take the lesser of that or 16 hours. So my number was 22:00 their number was max time with extension was 24:00.
Any help is appreciated.

The Spirit rumor has been around for seven or eight years. The Frontier rumor, not quite as long, but probably three or four years.

The closest airline that does what we do is SWA, and even that's a stretch.
