Certain bases, certain times of the year (BLI in January) it might be possible if you're fairly senior otherwise no you can't count on that at all I'm afraid.

Good luck finding that pretty much anywhere on a consistent basis. Particularly when you are junior.

I find it interesting and disgusting that they keep using 'growth' as their excuse for their missteps. As if engine failures, air turn-backs, and losing operational control of your passenger airline are all necessary byproduct of 'growth.' Are we suppose to believe this is an admirable thing like we might view an athlete operating on the very razor's edge of injury to maximizing his/her full potential. What a bunch of BS! There are freaking LIVES at stake here!

...We're just growing too fast that's all!

...No, you're just obsessed with your margins and you're fools for it because the law of averages is going catch you sooner or later!

Trouble is, the layman reading the article will probably fall for it. Like... "Oh well they just need to measure their 'growth' more wisely and all will be fine."

It's all lies and subterfuge these days with everyone all the time. Or maybe I'm just now waking up to it.

I guess we'll find out if the FAA has the metal or not these days to do their job. I'm not holding my breath though.

The Feds should have done their job along time ago with the new Valujet.

I am senior in base and rarely get more than 2 days off in a row with the new system. New pilots will be likely to get 1 day off between days on maybe 2 off in a row in a given week. Will also likely be at risk for TDY any given month for at least a year

Last month they involuntarily TDY'd guys from PIE to MYR, then realized, "oh crap we're short in PIE!" So they involuntarily TDY'd guys from IWA to PIE cover the shortfall and mission modes were appearing in PIE. The original pilot's TDY'd out of PIE we're not allowed to go back and cover the shortage in their own base.

I noticed next month that of the many involuntary TDYs there will be 2 involuntary from FLL to BLI on the A320. Problem is, FLL is pretty junior and BLI is the most senior base in the system. Those junior FLL FOs will be at the absolute bottom in BLI, in a very senior base, 3000 miles from home, in a city that is VERY hard to commute out of, minimum 2 leg commute probably 3. Sounds like a solid month away from home to me. All for exactly the same pay if they were staying home, except the extra 300-400 bucks per diem tax free.

But you live in base and you're home every night right?

(If I'm wrong about anything above feel free to correct me)
