The md80 fleet manager also sent a bulletin saying FOS on the 80 should do walkarounds.

Let me ask you why you think other airlines all have the FOs do the walkaround. Are a large amount of FOs new to Allegiant and unfamiliar with all of the errors possible in both the logbook and paperwork? Would they be more likely to see an issue with the physical aircraft on a walkaround vs hidden on the third page of a flight release?

I don't always do walkarounds and I am a captain. In my own opinion it is usually due to all the factors mentioned above and allocating the proper resources than throwing my weight around.

Every other airline that I know of has the FO does the walk around. For whatever reason that came as a surprise to me, this company alternated walk arounds based on whomever was flying. That was the culture when I started. I personally don't give a damn who does the walk around. The thing that annoys me is attitude that comes from certain individuals about the subject. You wanna follow SOP's for walk arounds? Fine. There is no need to give your FO attitude about it or drone on and on and on about it. I don't want to see copies of emails to and from fleet managers or anyone else. Just shut up and fly by the book. I don't want your opinions on the matter.

I was an FO here for years and doing the walkaround meant very little to me. You may be getting those responses when I never did because you are the one making it an issue.

I did many years of walk arounds too. I don't care who does them. I am not making an issue out of it. You are. My comments were directed at a one particular captain that goes out his way to make an issue out of it every single time you fly with him.

In all my years as a Captain I've never felt a need to lecture an FO about doing things by the book. If it's SOP for First Officer's to conduct the walk-around, then why is the Captain under any obligation to ever do it? Unless the Captain relieves you of the responsibility, you do it. The attitude you talk about, and the lengthy explanation, is likely a result of having to ask you to do your job. My guess is you earned your lecture.

I couldn't help but notice one omission to this sentence... Delta. Combine that with an off-hand comment from a Delta pilot the other day whose buddy in HR reportedly told him, "Delta doesn't hire Allegiant pilots." Any truth to that? Have any Allegiant pilots actually left and gone on to Delta?

There was one guy from SFB that went to Delta about 8 years ago or so. He was the only one I ever knew about.

Maybe you should save your lame pontification for line captains here. I never expected any captains to do the walk around. Frequently they do it before I even get to the plane.
