It's been said before, but any base that has not been in existence for at least 10 years and/or has less than a handful of airplanes should not be taken seriously. You would be better off trying to get into sfb or pie for the long term. So, yes it is very risky making any kind of life altering decisions for such a new and unproven base such as avl. AVL hasn’t at least stood the test of time, for now.

There have been no announcement of plans to have any base currently staffed with MD80's to be completely Airbus by such and such a date. Their plans change constantly and anything you post will be a complete SWAG, even if you are management.
N1sync is spot on with the current tentative plan for transitioning bases to all airbus. It was announced in the last town hall meeting a few weeks ago. It's usually a good thing to sometimes change plans and adapt a business when needed.

What are the odds getting AVL as a new hire?

Just looking at the seniority list, I would say it's medium seniority. Chances are it would not be available right out of training. But I think you would get it for sure within 6 months. This is a small base with only 8 FOs.

I'll save you some time. Highly unlikely right now. Most likely Vegas if you get the MD80

No one knows. The last official info we were given was around 12 pilots per month for the remainder of 2016. We are still losing pilots to the majors, however, so my personal guess is that it will probably stay around the same.

However if the rumor is true that we will be getting an announcement in October of another 10 airbuses on top of what we already had coming up to this point, that will mean more hiring. Then again, along with that rumor is the rumor of the company releasing the seat locks of up to 80 MD-80 FO's to be allowed to move to the Airbus early, facilitating the earlier retirement of the older fleet. I would guess that would affect hiring numbers.

All of that is pure speculation, right now. Your guess is as good as anyone's.

If true that will be the last -80 class for the year, also hearing 14 additional airbuses have been purchased to be announced OCT 1 with deliveries beginning Jan 2017. This will surely expedite the rate of -80 retirement, this may be the last new hire class to get the -80.
So just for fun... Oct 1 is a Saturday :P

But I still hope you're right.

Good catch, I didn't even look at that. Info comes from head of airbus training though, I do hope it's true.

More 320s may not mean more hiring... Still have lots of MD80 guys to transition.
