MD & VBD. VBD is basically like voluntary TDY. You get hotel, daily perdiem and rental car. RIGHT now it seems most upgrades are at 1.5 to 2 years. Don't base your Decisions with that. Why? Bc things change and right now I think (this is JUST ME) I think the ones that were hired in the last year-ish won't see upgrade for 3 to 5 years. That's just me.

airbus - as it stands now, awarded at about 20th month (OAK, LAX, PIT are most junior), first captain paycheck right around 2 year anniversary.
class dates typically follow awards by about 2 months, and training takes about as long.
airbus upgrade time is trending higher. best GUESS for a newhire today would be 4 yrs.

I would have to agree with this. We've been seeing fast 1 year upgrades for a while because exactly 2.5 years ago there were about 360 pilots on the list and today there are 815. The plan is to be 900 by this summer but after that the next 2 years will have very little growth and will be all about replacing the MD80's and 75's with the Airbus. Since the CBA attrition has stopped except for a little on the bottom 25% of the list. I would expect growth to pick back up again by summer of 2019 assuming we're not deep in an economic recession.

AVL question
If I was hired and got AVL md80 FO and they decide to transition to airbus would I get retrained on the bus or sent to an 80 base?
Also does it seem like AVL will be a long term base?
Thanks for any advice!

I presume you are talking about FO's
I would put BLI and IWA at the top of the list.
I would put OAK and PIT at the bottom. The rest are in the middle.
With Captains, I would additionally put SFB-Airbus at the top of the list.
It's hard to say how things are going to shake out in the very near future as we transition to all airbus base by base. Some people are holding out on an upgrade waiting for their base to transition so they don't get equipment locked. Some people are locked and may actually get displaced, then displace the person junior to them anywhere in the system. This has not occurred though so far. The first test of this is coming. Our new contract favors strict seniority in these situations. The old rules you were domicile protected.
To hit your original point about being interested in PIE and AVL, both of those cities are on the list to be completely transitioned to AB during 2017. The last written piece that came from the company was in July. PIE was to be completed by Fall 2017, AVL by winter 2017.
If you get hired here, you will be equipment locked for 2 years, although the company can and does waive this from time to time, but mainly for upgrades and not transitions.

As it stands right now with our new contract, you would probably be displaced out of base being equipment locked for 24 months. Ashville will be all airbus at the end of 2017 last I heard.
