What we all need to be considering moving forward, is if/when Cares 2 is extended these disasters of LOAs are burned and never seen again.

I know they get tabled o(whatever the catch phrase the union has been using is) once Cares passes. We need to make sure that when February and March roll around if we are in the same spot again we actually work towards mitigating furloughs this time.

Okay man, I know you're not optimistic because you haven't been hearing much on the matter at your regional. But there is some hope for us. Our Government Affairs committee has been speaking directly to the politicians on both sides of the aisle for months now. There is strong bipartisan support for the PSP extension. It's on the politicians' minds that they'll have 10s of thousands of airline employees on the street right before the election if they fail to act. The extension is already in the bill that they're fighting over in Washington. Furthermore, Mnuchin and Trump spoke today about taking executive action to send the funds to the airlines without Congress taking action. Is a second bailout coming for sure? Of course not; nothing is for certain. But there are many factors pointing to a second round of stimulus funds coming to the airlines. I know it's not publicized right now in the mainstream media. But the guys working behind the scenes directly with the politicians are still feeling very optimistic at this point that the money will be there. I'm not resting easy, but there still is some hope for us.

AA doesn't care that if it costs more money to furlough and retrain later. They don't care that it's cheaper over the long run to go ahead with VEOP. All they care about is cash right now. They are in a fight for their lives and in panic mode to save as much cash right now.

Do the math on how much longer AA can survive and you find out that it doesn't matter that they spend an extra $100 million 3 years from now to recall. The reason is because if they don't save the cash now, there will be no company to bring pilots back to in three years.

It flying comes back, then they can use that revenue to pay for retraining the recalls.

I'm not advocating for anybody or defending anything or taking sides... I'm just saying that the stepping over a dollar to save a dime theory doesn't work here.

can’t fund stuff via executive action. Congress must agree to some sort of bill and send it to President for signature. no bill, nothing to extend.

congress returns Sept 8

wow, I missed that. If this is tied to the fiscal year (as I suspect) and requires a passed federal budget, I am concerned...

Continuing Resolutions are a way of life inside the beltway. You think they really want to adopt a budget in a hotly contested election year? House and Senate are controlled by different parties. Will they come to agreement before the election? I am not holding my breath.

They will be debating 2.0 and the postal service, not the main budget.

A CR is for funding government ops, not private sector programs.

My guess is you made that up to fit your narrative. Both sales and prices have accelerated in California over the past few months.
