Who is going to provide DIP financing for that?

Even with all our debt wiped clean we would still be losing tens of millions per day. A judge couldn't even get us to profitable right now if he cut everyone's salary in half.

Why does everyone think that the govt would never allow another big merger, but would sit back and let one or more major carriers liquidate?

I truly believe the fate of AA lies in the hands of the government at this point. How do you exit bankruptcy without a plan for profitability? No amount of restructuring of debt or cutting of salaries solves the inherent problem. And right now by the looks of it things aren’t getting better quick enough for everyone to survive. Even a merger doesn’t solve the problem.

In BK you have to give something up. Won’t be the same coming out as going in. Not to mention contracts will be renegotiated. I would expect about 30% smaller.

When the end game will either be close the doors or merge ,the DOJ will allow another big merger . To not understand this is to not understand big government.

how would a merger help? Mergers take years and require upfront capital to invest in the merger process. To my knowledge there is not a single airline even close to making money right now (regionals aside) so I doubt much would be gained in a merger right now.

CH11 could happen but there would have to be a rebound in flying so AA can generate the cash flows needed to run the business but not necessarily service it’s debt.

If there’s no rebound in flying it’s all academic anyway, for all of us.
