Now if the AAG model will work without regional feed, that’s no big hairy deal.

but will it?
because they decreased the flow. Envoy alone used to get 50% of all new hire positions. Now it’s 25 a month, or around 1/4. Nobody will wait the 6-8 years to flow. They’ll be hired elsewhere by year 3-5. If AAG wants to keep their regionals staffed, then 80% of hiring has to come through their regionals. It will get it down to around 4 years. Flow at 1000 CA time or 4 years, whichever hits first. That will keep the seats filled….. for a while anyway. Eventually, it needs to be one airline.

AA has lots of pilots under 30 years old. So… 35+ year fences?

This is creating a new group 1 for RJ’s. Everything else moves up a number. Pretty sure the St Louis base was a fenced base for decades. This at least has a sunset built in, ending with a single pilot list.

how many of those current AA 35 year olds want to bid an RJ? the fence wouldn’t effect them. In fact, the fence Protects them from the 50 year old eagle captain with 25 year seniority.
The fence goes in a circle around the new group 2 (your old group 1) the new group 2 would be the only bid your actual seniority jet. It’s like a carve out. Fenced below and above.
The current group 2 stuff becomes group 3

group 1 - RJ
group 2 - A221 E190/195
Group 3 - A319/320/321 A223 B737

this was the outline (except my group example, back then A220 wasn’t in the mix) that the unions agreed could actually not only pass pilot votes on all 4 properties, but that Tempe agreed could work. The Parker clan rejected other suggestions/plans.

one thing is certain. Straight staple won’t fly, it will end up in an endless dispute, just like at USAir.

The real tricky part was retaining the ability to hire off the street bypassing they RJ group. We did that by making Military & guys with 5+ years of 121 experience start at group 2, and civilian trained, less than 5 years 121 experience or university guys start on RJ’s. There were still discussions going on on this issue when it all fell on the back burner due to other issues that faced the APA at the time.

Let’s see, perma RSV CA, or LCC FO for more money.

Hard choice.
