Senior on reserve can sometimes have it's benefits. Eg AB 320 JFK and two trips open up, one transcon all nighter and one easy day trip.
It's not a huge difference but you sometimes get a choice if you're more senior.

New equipment often goes junior at the bottom vs what it's expected to settle out at. Uncertainty of quality of flying, who's senior that might come over ahead of you, etc.
When we got the A300's years ago guys couldn't hold a line as FE's but held lines as A300 FO's. Since they were already on reserve they bid the new a/c rolling the dice and it worked out for them. But a more senior guy wouldn't bid it because it's not worth the risk if it doesn't break his way.
P.S. Just saw aa73's reply. We're saying the same thing.
787 bidding starts shortly. Uncertainty with a new fleet, and who's bidding it which is unknown until the awards, generates uncertainty and can lead to non typical seniority just like what happened to the AB (300 and 320) in JFK.

Ill say with all the movement lately the impossible is becoming the possible. It will be interesting to see how the 787 bidding shakes things up. How many senior DFW 75/76 guys make the jump is yet to be seen. I've heard many folks that have been on property awhile around the academy say they are going to pass on the 78 for awhile to see how it works out.

I'm sorry for changing the subject, I just wonder how expats are doing with the hiring process. For people like myself with most of the experience abroad. Any insight on what to expect when lacking 121 experience?
My quals
5700TT
4600 Turbine
2300 Wide body SIC
750 Turbine PIC
College Degree
All of my experience except my early training and instructor time was conducted in Colombia flying for Avianca, FAR 129 operator of US registered aircraft.
P.S. phone is not ringing

787 is NOT going to drop to newhires.
Currently DFW 777 FO's less than 5000 seniority are 10% of the total. The junior weighting we're talking about due to uncertainty might result in sub 5000 seniority FO's exceeding the 777's 10% mark. But dropping to newhires? No.

CA 3807
FO 4410
Tot 8217
Does not include furloughee's or people out on leave etc.
Total pilots active and inactive is 9964 + 25 that just started class, that includes everyone, furloughee's, management pilots, leaves etc.
Lowest seniority number is 10124 + 25 to be added because of the class that just started.
