The way I read it, even though you get the buy up plan through APA, your company benefits will be reduced by the amount of the buy up plan. Equaling the same net amount before the buy up.
Or, buying up is a waste of money because you gain nothing.

Well the plans description on the APA website says:
"This Plan provides a monthly disability benefit for each participating APA member, in addition to your Company disability benefits."
So I read it as it will not reduce the company benefits. But if it does, I agree, it seems it would be a waste of money.

The entire LTD benefit at AA for pilots is a winding snake and after 4 years, the snake has many avenues to shed most of its skin, if not slither away completely. Plan accordingly.

Good luck. Those who've forged forward before you and tried to get specifics got little. Those who have communicated to the leadership how important an improved LTD benefit is, have been met with silence. LTD improvements are noticeably absent from APA's initial JCBA proposal to management and it seems to be an issue that's "confidential, on the Q.T. and very,........hush, hush".
